Every evening about 7pm the verandha at my home is invaded by toads (mostly) plus the occassional frog. I don't have anything against these animals but they are a real pest as they leave their droppings everywhere. I've tried catching them and throwing them over the garden wall but they just seem to come back probably through the garden drains.

Anybody have any solutions to solve this problem?

The frogs and toads are not really the pests, but they are eating the pests.

You either have a big food supply for them or a nice garden pond that they enjoy.

Personally I love frogs, the more the better, but you have to keep an eye out for the next up the food chain which is often snakes.

They collect there to eat the insects that are drawn by the light in your home. Block the light, no insects, no food, no toads.

Don't kill them,

To all the above respondents to my request for help:

I think you’re a bunch of time wasters. Do you have nothing better to do than send inane replies to a serious request for help in solving a particular problem?

Specifically to:

sometime . Yes thanks a bunch! If I wanted to live in a Condo, then I would. If you live on the 30th. floor of yours I suggest you jump out of it.

samuian. Well, actually I prefer to eat them, Cobra’s that is. Delicious if cooked the right way. Don’t waste your time and mine by asking for the recipe!

meandwi. I’m neither FOB [fresh off the boat] nor did I just FOOT [fall out of a tree]. So you think it’s a good idea to turn off all the lights and sit on my veranda in the dark do you? Stupid bugger!

Anyway, to those of you who are even slightly interested I think I’ve invented my own solution to the problem. I mixed up a solution(pun intended), containing a handful of salt dissolved in hot water to which I added 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 2 heaped teaspoons of Colman’s hot English mustard and a good pinch of finely ground chilli powder. Shook this all up and put it into a spray bottle. Last night went toad hunting! Result: As soon as the spray hit the little buggers they hopped high into the air crying their little eyes out. If they come back again I’ll improve the mixture by adding a spoonful or two of toilet bleach!

Hereby ends this topic. No replies necessary thank you!

I started off reading this with a bit of sympathy for zazaza with regards to the flippant replies until I got to this paragraph. :o

Wassup? Did they kick you out of the NKVD for being too sadistic?

There are harmful pests that need to be got rid of by whatever means there is. Then there are pesky pests that, with a bit of give and take, can be tolerated.

Try installing some bright lights further down the garden to attract the bugs. The frogs and toads will follow eager for a free meal.

One of these days somebody might take offence at you and spray some cocktail of noxious chemicals over you. It is called karma, google it.

Well, the OP's response is OTT (over the top) needles to say and invites flames and abuse by its very nature.
