It was NOT provided by the Americans but no doubt there will soon be a film where Brad and Angie discover it and swim the Atlantic arriving moments before the nasty germans reduce England to a crumbling wreck and thus saving the day

Yeah, think I saw that movie already somewhere... :o

"Sorry I forgot Grenada which was an outstanding victory against three blokes with a sharpened mango!"

Brilliant - I though the might marines and Clint beat up a bunch of Cuban bricklayers

Number of U.S. military involved in the "liberation" of Grenada: 7000

Number of medals awarded for taking part in the "liberation" : 8633

No, it was not a battle, nor any war. The greatest event in history was when a pacifist Jew, from a long line of pacifist Jews, established a pacifist sect of Judaism, for which he was convicted of treason and murdered by Roman Gentile soldiers who were obeying legal orders. Another greatest event in history was when a Hindu following the teachings of that pacifist Jew non-violently liberated several hundred million Indians from their colonial Gentile oppressors. Another greatest event, when a pacifist, Christian, American Negro followed the example of that Jew and that Hindu and non-violently liberated millions of American Negroes.

As Ulysses mentioned, it depends on your religious point of view, sometimes.

Obviously nothing to do with Thailand. In which forum does this topic belong, including the trash?

To be honest, I don't think any historical event has been that great. They almost all seem to have brought misery to somebody. Pick any day in human history, and I'm sure you'll find plenty of people doing stupid, nasty, or horrible things. Even on the day the Buddha became enlightened (if you are one who believes this occurred) the misery didn't stop.

Yes, Yes! I've got the documentary, "When we were Kings" which won an Oscar for Best Documentay. What a fabulous event that was? Rumble in the Jungle!

And shall we mention the Falklands? The mighty British Empire sure took care of that threat! My history comes not from Hollywood but from recorded events that shape history. Like the fact that Churchill know of the attack on Pearl Harbor before it happened but warned nobody - so hungry was he for American involvment in Europe. Name any country that has won any war UNASSISSTED ever. Back channels, lend-lease, movement of equipment, etc. Like it or not America saved your ass - you wouldn't be able to read this message if it were not for America -because we don't write in German.

Yes the Falklands! 100,000 Argentinian Troops on an Island 8000 miles away. Not just conscripts but elite special forces, the French suppying the most advanced rocket technology, a very well trained and provisioned Air force operating from a series of land bases against carrier based British fighters who were not allowed to operate from land (Gee thank you for your diplomatic efforts Uncle Sam). 8,000 troops whose battle ready training took place on crowded troop ships in the 3 long weeks it took to sail there, because a certain superpower not a million miles away was too much of a pussy to let us fly in troops.

It took 36 days the loss of 250 British men and 10,000 argentinians to re-take a british sovereign territory that most Brits had not heard of let alone cared about. But just like Poland when we sign a deal we tend to stick to it. Not quite the storming of the Marriott pool bar in Grenada or the massive victory of the Panama Canal but hey we are only English because of you Non Cluedo! Danke Shun mein hero!

Hey and thank you for winning the war in Afghanistan and Iraq too. I am sure all those boys (including my son who has done two tours) are very grateful to be dragged into another unwinnable mess that will acheive little and kill many. No- cluedo may think the British are arrogant but show me where we re-write history and gloat about it. If anything we play down our stuff. We used to be a super power but we are not anymore but we do not roll over to be shafted. We also don't bang on endlessly about it either.

Back on subject. The most brilliant invention. American Ego.

The Falklands war was a joke, Argentina did not and does not have 100000 elite special forces, they were unproven and untested Argentinian troops who were basically left to fend for themselves. They did receive a little help in the way of sporadic Air support but that was it. You mention the French supplied advanced rockets to Argentina and you are correct, but did not the UK possess the same or better. Not to mention air craft carriers with Harriers , something that the Argentinians didn't have.

The UK military is far more advanced and battle tested than the Argentinians who have not fought any real wars.

So not a real fight, more like a schoolyard bully beating up kids for their lunch money :o

It's interesting that you mention Iraq and Afghanistan, the UK has been invading Iraq and Afghanistan on and off for the last 200 years, in the 20th century, the UK military was involved in fighting in Iraq at least 3 times, and also the UK military invaded Afghanistan in the late 1700's because that was their buffer zone for India, they were paraniod because Iran had invaded Afghanistan and was poised to go into India again. Take a gander at the book entiltled John Company's war and you will see how in the mid 1800's, the UK military invaded Iraq, Iran. These are not new things, it's just history repeating itself.

Now to address your statements about the US not helping the UK against Argentina, the UK posseses a number of dependent territories in the South Pacific and friendly states like Jamaica that are part of the Commonwealth, why didn't the UK use these forward areas for staging their attacks?

You suggest I read a book??!!

I suggest you read my statement. But since you are obviously American I will do it slowly! Not JUST conscripts. The word just is an indication that there were conscripts there as well as Special Forces. I never suggested that there were 100,000 special forces and if you read a book you might find that there were alot of well trained regular army there as well.

I mentioned the French Exocet but did not mention that the majority of weaponery the Argentinians used were US as was most of the Officer Corp training. But my point was that to send a task force 8,000 miles by seas to take on an invasion force sent by a fascist dictatorship 12 times the size was not a joke nor a school yard bully scenario. In fact the school yard bully was the Argentine force who bravely launched their Armada against 32 Royal Marines who held out for 2 days.

You also might want to look at a map to see where Jamacia is in relation to the Falklands. And then ask yourself why the Special relationship that the US have with Britain was forgotten when they refused to share their intelligence with us. Heres a clue!! Look at how much money is spent by Argentinia in the States! Once again American commerce comes first.

And as a point of interest the reason there was sporadic air support was because British Special forces went into Argetinia and devastated the Air Force. Thats what happens when a bully takes on the Brits.

Don't get me wrong I really like America and have never met a bad American in all my travels there. But there is a limit to the rubbish I will put up with from people like No cluezo who has a superiority complex unlike anyone I have met. Thank goodness for the freedom to speak trash on forums like this. Bash the brits all you like, we are a small insignificant dot on the map but remember no-one speaks American!!!!

Ditto to sgunn65. I lost a lot of friends in the Falklands who were special forces and also lost my son-in-law in Irag 18 months ago pulling you guys out of the shit, leaving a 3 year old kid without his dad. Why, because of the specialrelashionship of the Americans with the English. I have a lot of American Friends but you Cleuzo are definately not one of them and never will be with predjudises and attitude. You are a shame on America and the American people.

While we are mentioning Communist countries, how about the near-total collapse of the Soviet Empire, with barely a shot being fired except some militia in Slovenia, and in Romania? The fall of the Berlin Wall was the most dramatic example.

Another huge contribution from the Judeo/Christian legacy is The 10 Commandments; Which became the foundation in the evolution of most legal codes. Of course it is now banned in schools and courthouses. Some call it doctrine, but you can't deny the existence and wisdom of this concise moral construct.

I am not a Brit basher and never will be, I don't believe in blaming an entire country for the doings of a government. Although the summer I spent at boarding school in Reading University was the worst time of my life, I don't hold that against the British people. To address your point about Argentinians using US weaponry, most of their weaponry was French not US, I am not talking small arms, their Air Force mainly consisted of Dassault Mirages and their missiles of choice as you pointed out were Exocets, so I don't know what you mean by US arms, are you talking about their rifles?

The Argentine armed forces were not battle tested like the British who have been fighting global battles for the last 200 years, there really is no comparison. The British were superior in every respect.

Yes Jamaica is far away from Argentina but alot closer than the UK, and Jamaica isn't the only place they could have used.

As you pointed out, the British neutralized most of the Argentine Air Force so it is safe to say the British enjoyed Air superiority and as we both know, that is more than half the battle.

The Argentines were fighting a defensive static battle while the English were more mobile and fighting in an offensive capacity, so it was just a matter of time before the Brits won.

And to let you know, I am not an American, and not European, you are off by at least 7000 miles.

Wrong, my British friend. Yes you won the Battle of Britain but you would have gone down in flames if it had not been for RADAR which was provided, of course, by America.

Radar was invented (and granted a British patent in 1935) by the Scottish physicist Sir Robert Watson-Watt. Randall & Boot at Birmingham (UK) University developed the cavity magnetron which enabled airborne radar sets to be developed. When it (the magnetron) was shipped to the US the US goverment advisor James Phinney Baxter III said it was 'the most valuable cargo ever brought to our shores'.

Now you have done it - upset the septics with facts

Have they schools in America?

Prakanong, didn't you miss out a 'doo da' at the end of "Two World Wars and One World Cup"?
