Persian Cat Question...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have adopted a new cat but this one is persian, I noticed the difference with myother cat as Felix (local breed) is very playful and affectionate to us and would come welcoming us back home when we arrive from work. But Tango (persian) is very lazy, during the day she will only sleep and eat and if i play with her would only get intersted for a few minutes then sleep again. I'm thinking maybe she did not grow with us (she's 5 years now) unlike felix which was 2 months when we got him. Are all persian cats like this? I've never had any persians before it's always siamese and local breeds back home. Any advice?

Thanks

BM

I've got persians and find their personalities vary hugely - even in the same litter. Though all show a degree of independence and insistence on doing everything at a time of their own choosing - and isn't that what charms one in a cat? (If you think persians are less frequently attached to you, you shouldn't try a birman - even more beautiful and no trouble to keep, but even more detached.

As above. Unlike dogs there isn't much commonality in personality by bnreed in cats. They are extremely individual, evenm in the same litter you will find huge differences in temperament right from the start.

You don't mention how long you have had her or where you got her. Depending on these circumstances, depression (i.e. missing former home and humans) or not feeling comfortable with you yet (using sleep as an escape) could be factors.

Unless you have gotten her very recently - in which case you could give it a bit of time to see if she perks up -- it would be a good idea to let Tango have a thorough check up at a vet as a 5 year old cat would usually be more active than what you describe. She might have parasites, be anemic etc.
