Border Run Vs. Flight Out: Any Difference In 30 Day Stay?

I'm on a 30 day stay, got at BKK airport a few weeks ago. I need another 30 days, so I know i have to leave the country to get it. Is there any reason to fly OUT of Thailand, somewhere close and cheap to fly to, maybe Kuala Lumpur or Penang, VERSUS just doing a visa run bus tour to the Cambodian border?

Is the end result exactly the same, or is there any difference?

Clearly the flight will be quicker and more comfortable but more expensive.
