An interesting thing happened at my thai language school Tuesday afternoon. An American girl enrolled in the school hadn't paid attention to her expiration date on her 90 day extension and noticed it had expired the day before.

We downloaded/filled out the TM.7, she raced home to get her letters from the Ministry of Education, photo, copies she needed and headed to Suan Plu.

I honestly didn't know if she would be be forced to buy a 7 day extension and go get another Non-O Type ED Visa out of the country to restart the whole process or if she would be considered on overstay, pay the fine and get another 90 extension.

Today I went by the school to check as she attends Tues/Thurs. The girl in question said she'd paid an overstay fee of one day, and they extended her ED visa for another 90 days.

It turned out well for her, but I still don't know if they made an exception for her or if they followed the rules concerning overstay and extension of visas. Either way I am sure she'll watch her permitted to stay until date a little closer now...

If any of the resident experts in visa rules could weigh in on this with their 25 satang's worth I'd appreciate it just for my own knowledge.
