Divorce And Possible Consequences

Featured Replies

Hi,

a friend is on an O visa and has just walked out on his wife for very good reasons. She, however, has predictably got nasty!

What he's worried about is that she has the marriage certificates and is threatening to divorce him and have his visa cancelled.

Wahat he'd like to knoew is

a/ Can she divorce him without his knowledge?

b/ Can she then go to immigration and have his visa stopped, again without him knowing?

c/ would immigration inform him if his visa is cancelled?

d/ if she can do the above, what are the overstay implications?

Anybody has any idra, please let me know,

Cheers

Divorce requires mutual consent/signing at District Office - otherwise will require court action which takes some time I believe.

A visa is used to enter country for up to 90 days - does he have a multi entry visa or a one year extension of stay from Immigration? I expect Immigration could cancel the extension of stay just as they always do for loss of employment.

Maybe but expect it is up to him to know his status so would not make any bets on it.

Overstay is 500 baht per day up to 20k baht and it being stamped into your passport plus lockup until departure if caught.
