Mahdiol Uni Or Khon Kean Uni

Featured Replies

Morning,

Just wondering if anyone was aware of people / are themselves, studying at either Mahidol University or Khon Kaen University on one of their international degree programmes.

Was considering transferring to Mahidol to study and am looking to find out a little more about the actual annual cost of living and studying and more importantly, where the degrees can take them with regards to employment opportunities in and out of thailand and attempting to be accepted on a masters in Europe.

Essentially what clout does an degree from Mahidol hold in your opinions.

Thanks,

Luke

Mahidol and Chulalongkorn University are probably considered the two universities with the best reputation in Thailand for their international programs in science and medicine. Thammasat University is also considered one of the best in Thailand in law and business related fields. I am not sure what programs Khon Khan is known for but they do have a good reputation although probably not a well known as the other three universities. Depending on what is your field of study, you would have to check which has the best program for you as there are several other good universities in Thailand. I am not up to date with the current tuition costs of any of the universities however the cost of living in Khon Khan would be somewhat less than the cost of living in Bangkok.

I am Thai and have a Master Degree in Science from Mahidol University and currently live in the US. A degree from one of the three universities I mentioned definitely has some clout in Thailand when it comes to employment opportunities within Thailand. I currently live in the US and in my experience, very few people or employers have any knowledge of the names or reputations of universities in Thailand. I believe that it is only the knowlege and experience that one has gained that really has any clout in the employment market once one moves outside of Thailand. My husband 'jetjock' who is a regular poster on this forum has told me that if one really wants clout from a degree, they should get their degree from a top university like Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge or one of the top universities that are well known throughout the world. :o

Well i think you have hit the nail on the head there, thanks a lot for that reply.

With all due respect to each of the universities you mentioned, I guess the fact that they are unheard of in the U.S is enough for me to stick it out here in England. Although i don't attend either of the Oxbridge Universities, my Uni here is in the top ten so i will guess i will just stick the next two years out in the UK.

Perhaps look into doing a masters in Asia after.

Thanks alot for the reply, it really did help. :o
