Up to them if they want to go somewhere quiet for a good chat. Not for me but dont knock them for what they want to do.Have you noticed on this post that the ones who critisise are the ones from bk.What is it with you lot cant you just accept what people want to do.

Nothing to do with the ones living in BKK.

It is about what people spend.

I can see from another thread (you started) that there is something about you and BKK.

My point of view is different than many and same as many.

I think that goes for all of us.

Which is why I like participating in the Forums.

nightclub with 2 live bands - mixers 40 baht - food 80 baht a serving

C. Pub with 2 live bands - mixers 80 baht - food 80 baht +

nightclub 1 live band - 100 baht entry for 2 mixers n ice - food 80 baht +

coffee shop (now has 4 piece band plays folk/ county type music) - mixers 30 Baht - food 60 baht +

Ice usually 30/40 baht a bucket.

Takes a lot of mixers to run up a big bar bill. 4 mixers to half a bottle of vodka + 2 food servings is still well less than 500 baht + the vodka at 320 baht a bottle.

Makes me wonder where you guys do drink at those crazy prices :o

Not always where, but what.

Depends what one likes to drink and eat, and the priorities people have when it comes to what they spend their money on.

I notice several posters mentioning they bring their own bottle. I guess up country it's the usual thing to do but how about downtown Bangkok? Any bars that allow the same without charging a corkage fee?

Quite common in places in BKK as well, where they cater for Thai customers.

Mixers are usually 120 baht here.. Some bars are up to 180 and 250+ for a lady drink.. 4 drinks and 2 LD's and your a grand poorer, what does that take ?? 30 mins ?? Onto the next one and repeat..

Its not boastful, its all about where you are.. upcountry and rural is cheap.. However the services I like to have close by are simply not available upcountry. My last homes rental was 75k a month with maybe another 15k in electric and water and some more in pool and gardener fees.. Some people upcountry think spending 90k plus a month on a house is nuts, but seaview villas dont come cheap !! Where I live now I have 2 cinemas within 5km, a carrefore with rabbit pate and goats cheeses, I get proper fast broadband, I can get lavazza coffee beans, theres multiple pizza / sandwich / etc delivery choices should I feel too lazy to go out to eat. Theres a yacht club, 4 or 5 golf courses with 20kms, etc etc etc.. Its all about services on tap. I could go and live elsewhere with none of these thing available to me, and cut my cost of living to possibly a 3rd, but why ?? For me living here is about what the place has to offer not hiding away trying to make my dosh stretch further.

I dont look down on guys that like it peaceful upcountry.. If thats what appeals to them great.. They get the cheap life as a bonus.. But Thailand has very different worlds and if you want to live in the areas with all the facilities then your cost of living and nights out will end up higher.

It's not about where you are, it's about the type of venues you go to. Farang brothels are expensive. Thai clubs are cheap. Even the trendy ones in Bangkok that are attended by rich young Thais.

Six years ago if anyone would have told me I'd be living up country today, I'd have told them that they were insane. Things do indeed change. I would like to have a superstore closer than 150 kilometers but I have adapted nicely without it. My wife is a great cook and I now eat 95 percent Thai food. We live in a rather small two bedroom western style house sitting on two rai. I have a large workshop and a great dog. The entire two rai has a two meter block wall built around it. I still have a nice condo in Jomtien and left it sit empty for over a year until I was sure I could handle the upcountry lifestyle. It is now leased to a friend of mine and as long as my wife can put up with me, I won't be needing it. You are correct! Never say never.

Dinner and drinks for me and the wife is around 1,500 Baht.

Dinner, drinks, and etc. for just me is 4,000-10,000 Baht.

nana: never go alone, if 2 people its about 1500baht each (chivas 12yo bottle+mixers+sometimes 1 beer for one of the ladies we know)

Spice/spicy type bars. usualy cheap... 800 maybe, never go to these kind of bar without 3-4guys so split 2-3bottles

Ekkamai: 2000baht usualy, always finish the night drinking almost 1 bottle for everyone and mixers dont come cheap there

phuket: nothing, nightlife sucks here... went out twice in 3months, both time cost me 1500-2000baht (3-4 drinks at small bars then bottle at club/gogo)

im 21 so yeah it does cost more than a oldtimer, have spent easily up to 25k on nights out, without buying lady drinks or hookers.

cheapest is 400 leeching off

Phuket...

Good for you, I hope that the simple life is pleasant for you.. For me I like a nice pool, a nice place to live, etc.. If money was tight I would just go and make some more.

I tend to spend more clubbing in bangkok than I do down here and thats not in the girly zones.. 808 or similar still costs..

I spend that much on rare occassion in San Fran (business outing and I usually get stuck with the tab ), but you "easily spend up to 25k on nights out". At 200 bt a drink, that comes to 125 drinks. You must have quite the following.

In thailand, I spend 500 - 2000 on most nights out and over the 4 years I lived in Thailand, I think the most I spent was 6k bt. I don't make a habbit of buying drinks and friends.

You cannot buy friends in Thailand, Period. It's been covered in a thousand threads. The best you can do is a 30 minute++ lease, or take out an evening usufruct which will give you the right to unhindered usage and access to the "fruits". :o

It sounds much more appealling than buying 20k bt of drinks. How do these people spend this much and at the same time claim they don't pay for dates. Personally, I would feel used.

Blimey, am very shocked at the large amounts some of you high rollers get through.

Just 4 years ago, my budget for staying in Pattaya for a month (including accommodation) was GBP£1000. (then 76,000 bht) I had a lovely bay view high floor condo, was out most nights, and had company all night 2 or 3 times a week.

I accept since then prices have risen, exchange rate has worsened, & nowadays often have a TGF in tow, so its no longer possible :o

However, i get up late so don't do breakfast or lunch as such, just a snack. Don't go to fancy restaurants, don't feel the need.

Don't go out until around 11pm. Often start off at my friends English restaurant on 2nd Rd. 60bht for a large draft Hieneken. Later we would visit Walking St. & several Go Go bars, but only those that sell non Chang draft. (usual price 45/50 bht).

Maybe some bar-b-que supper from a side soi (1/2 the price of w.st bar-b-que!)

10bht for a songthaew home.

If home alone, total cost maybe 5-800bht. If with GG bar company add 1500 to 2000 inc BF, if with company met elsewhere, add 1000.
