That about sums up bk lol.

What the hel_l are you on about

Eh??

What are you on fella?? Whatever it is i'll have some :o

I think it depends on what kind of person you are and what you are looking for in your lifestyle. Overall, I found that the quality of people in Bangkok, both farangs AND foreigners is better than other popular places. Pattaya is a s**thole for example

cum on you Pattaya people are you going to stand for that lol.

I rest my case.( dont get banned or warned bk alex, that is flaming)

I will have a chat to my thai friends in Pattaya and see what they think.Wonder if my thai friend, the big police guy agrees with you or not.

Can i say bk is a bigger shiiiithole,i will ask the mod.

What kind of people are you talking about?

In Bangkok, there are people leaving in slum and people leaving in 100 MB houses, some juste arrived from Burma, some have their family names in history book, some never left their street, some commute on an almost daily basis between HK, NY and London ...

There are many different people leaving in Bangkok ...

And I'm just talking of Thai people ....

rakjung,no problems if you dont know many bk people, but the question was based on reading posters on here that are from bk.Never mind though.

I find Bangkok people very stand-offish and unfriendly, a bit like London. They wouldn't dream of striking up a conversation with anyone as they do in Pattaya. To me the Bangkok people are very far away from the famous reputation of 'Land of Smiles' which is unfortunate since the Airport that brings all the tourists is right there. I can imagine what the tourist must think when they first see these people who's reputation, world wide, is, they always have a smile. I guess they must think they've been dropped off at the wrong airport, until they have overtipped them and then, of course, they get the smile in the form of 'Sucker'.

Apart from that, if I have to go to Bangkok at any time, it's usually under protest and because I have to and I can't wait to leave because it really smells.

Did anybody see the documentary BANGKOK GIRL

There was a cockney guy,who was a teacher and a right assole on this programme and was a typical bangkokian farang.

I get on great here in BKK. Generally I keep to myself. I spend almost all of my time with !. At work doing my job and talking with my western collegues. 2. At home with or going out on occasion with my Thai wife 3. Spending any other part of my free time at either going to Church, Playing music in my band with my wstern friends or doing odd jobs around my home or other properties that I and the wife own. All in all, I have a busy and rewarding and fun lifestlye. You will note, however, that I never mentioned spending any time with Thais (other than strictly business or family or a very, very limited number of close associates). That's the Key to my survival and happieness.

Sorry, bratpack, I've got the jist now!

I find people who live in Bangkok are very fast to blame or condemn Pattaya for any reason they can think of. Haven't decided why yet but there are a couple of options at the moment.

1. Jealous they don't live here

2. Only visited once, and the only place they went to was Walking Street and now think the whole of Pattaya is just one big brothel. (Narrowminded)

3. If you mention you live in Pattaya, you suddenly become a low class piece of s$$t and your opinion is of no value. (Snobbery)

I guess there's lots more but can't think of them at the moment, must be because I'm one of those low class slobs that hasn't put her brain in gear yet! In my defence, it is only lunchtime. :o

OK, so we're talking about farangs leaving in Bangkok who post on TV. That narrows the subject ...

First, it's not always obvious to know where peole are staying, they don't usually start their post by " Hello, I'm Jim from Silom...", " Here Shirley from Chaweng ...".

Then everybody post in this forum. From people on a 3 month vacation staying in KoSan Rd to people who came here 20 years ago and never left, and everything in between.

I don't want to make any guess that may be ... so if you could please let us know what's wrong with "Bangkok people", it would be easier to answer you, either if we agree or don't.

Actually, there is some truth to this. If you are a farang who lives in Bangkok, you are assumed to be businessman, a corporate employee, an academian, a foreign government worker, a NGO worker, or a low-class, sex-chasing, beer-chugging, lowlife.

If you are a farang who lives in Pattaya, you are assumed to be a low-class, sex-chasing, beer-chugging lowlife.

There was a cockney guy,who was a teacher and a right assole on this programme and was a typical bangkokian farang.

That was not a documentary. It was more like a struggling, young Canadian film producer who made a name of himself by making a show in one day. He received a grant from CBC (i.e. my taxes) to make a film that could easily have been made in my hometown in Canada (or any other city in the world). I'm embarrassed to be a Canadian because of that show and, moreover, I can't believe CBC accepted and aired it.

That's my 2 bits on it. Anyone else seen it?

You find the same mix of people in BKK as you will find in any other bigger city.

Poor, rich, workers, execs, etc.

Some people are friendly and some are not.

Easy as that.

He was a complete asshol_e, but not the typical Bangkok farang by a long shot, even if you hang around the seedier side of it.

joskydive,thats how i feel.

Even a friend comes from bk to visit Pattaya and he wont go anywhere but gogo bars so it shows he has money.Gets all the ladies round him and buys drinks, then the <deleted> thinks we are going 50/50,bit of a scam i say.

One night i had taken him to a bar i use,a very good friend of mine, who is thai and after one drink he said can we go walkign st cos this is shiiiit.i told him to go and eff off and dont phone me again. He knew that i went to this bar purely because he is a goof friend and he had the cheek to say that. This is what i mean about some plastic bk people on here, also some thai women too, espec the chinese thai.Totaly up their own asses, not able to be real and nice.
