Obtaining A Retirement Type "o" Visa In Thailand?

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been posted many times so sorry guys and gals, but, can one obtain a retirement type "O" visa in Thailand?

We are going on a two month trip away from my home town of Los Angeles and then on to Chiang Mai to stay. In other words I've been putting it off and now it's crunch time.

Yes I did a search, but like some things I do maybe not a real good one so be easy on my soul.

Wife is a Thai citizen and yes I am over 50.

Thanks in advance.

You can apply for it in Thailand as well. Just be sure you have at least 21 days left on your visa exempt entry stamp or tourist visa.

If you are married to a Thai you can also apply for a non-O based on marriage.

Retirement. 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 65,000 Baht monthly income.

Marriage. 40,000 Baht monthly income.

To get a years extension.

You will need a Visa to enter Thailand. Try and get a Non Imm O Visa in LA. If not a Tourist Visa will do.

You can also use a combination of both bank deposit and letter and there is no three month requirement for bank deposit required in that case. With 21 days or more remaining on a 30 day visa exempt entry or tourist visa you can convert to non immigrant visa single entry for 2,000 baht at an Immigration office if you qualify for extension of stay and then your extension will be another 1,900 baht. If you arrive on a non immigrant O visa you avoid that first step.
