Google with little fanfare have opened the doors on a new 3d 'virtual life' environment called Lively, though at this stage only for Windows players. A Mac version available soon they claim.

There's no money {yet?} and users can create 3d rooms, visit friends, play YouTube videos on their 'TV'. Looks like a simplified 2nd life, wonder where they're going with it?
