Hi. Can anyone suggest any decent vcd authoring software. I am currently using NTI cd & dvd-maker 7, which came with my machine, but am unhappy with its results.

I am trying to burn a 5 min video presentation, so memory is not a problem but my burner still drastically compresses the video . This is unacceptable and it offers me no options.

What can I do?

What is your target audience, is it absolutely necessary to use VCD format? By nature, VCD is a rather lossy low quality format. Are the discs going to be used on standalone VCD players only? PCs? If they're going to be used on PCs, you have a lot of better options.

If you're forced to use VCD format, TMPGEnc Plus is considered to have very high video quality.

SVCD is the way to go if you can't use DVDs.

I haven't done it in over a year, but I remember that first I encoded videos with DVDx - you can manually select your size and other options, then I think I used Nero to author the disk, or, I suppose, NTI cd maker would do just fine - it's the lack of control over the encoding that makes these programs so lame.
