I have Nokia model 6030 that I purchase new (3 years ago) from a reputable Bkk dealer. It has had no problems and I have never entered any codes or restricting devices, just plain and simple daily use.

This morning I wake up and 'out of the blue' and see that my PHONE is RESTRICTED. It is asking me to ENTER RESTICTION CODE...

<deleted>...!

What code...I have no stinking code...nor did I order or request one...!

I called the Nokia Service Center and they said...I would have to take time out of my work day, and physically come down to one of their centers and PAY MONEY to have them unlock it for me...(I tried tuning my phone off and on again...pulled out the battery for 5 minutes, nothing helped)

<deleted>...<deleted>...<deleted>...!

Where is all this coming from...they really have me by the short and curlys on this one and I resent it...anybody else ever have to deal with this...?

Your phone has somehow become "locked", perhaps as a result of damage, or other fault (software, firmware, hardware). It needs to be "unlocked". You can try to get an unlock code, which is generated using the IMEI, for free on the internet, be careful as you can "brick" the phone if you enter the wrong code three times. but maybe best just to go to a shop at MBK and pay the fee to have it "professionally" unlocked.

Thanks Iomatopo,

I did google search for codes and remedies earlier, but nothing worked. I know I will have to go to the service center. I just resent doing so in light of the fact that I did not do anything to my phone...didn't drop it, change anything, or enter any other info into it...just awoke this morning with a sabotaged phone...

Very unusual for this to just 'happen'. As a matter of interest, was the phone switched off overnight, or does someone else have access to it. By the by do you use the PIN function to secure the phone?

Regards

PS Did you try this site, they do list Thai providers.

Traveler, yes...very unusual indeed. To answer your inquiries...NO, the phone was NOT switched off overnight (on like it always is).

NO...nobody else uses my phone.

NO...I do NOT use a PIN function to secure my phone.

I did find your suggested site previously to posting here...however, Ido not know what my IMEI is (as it asks me to dial *#06# to get my IEMI) cannot do...because of phone restriction...

Oddly despite having had cell phone for much toooooo long, I've never owned a Nokia, however, there may be a label, often under the battery which has the IMEI printed on it, in extremely small type.

I'd guess it's more likely the fault of your service provider than the phone. Give them a call and ask them why they locked your phone. Maybe they didn't but they are more helpful if they are on the defensive.

Gary,

First thing I did was call my service provider AIS...they said it was a 'Nokia' problem. I half expected Nokia to tell what you told me, but they did not.

Normal by keyin the code *#06# you should get the IMEI number on Screen. That code byupass even phone restrictions.

To get the Special Service Menue you need to keyin: *#92702689# which will show the following infos:

1. Serial number (IMEI)

2. Production Date (MM/YY)/ Made (MM/DD/YY)

3. Purchase Date (MM/YY)

4. Date of last repair / Repaired (MM/YYYY)

5. Life timer: actual time of using.

Using the following code *#0000# you can get:

1. Software Revision No.

2. Release Date of Software

3. Type of phone

So, may some of this can help you.

Cheers.

Why bother - go to any decent mobile shop in the nearest shopping mall where they can unlock phones, and have them do it. Might zap your contacts though.

Alternatively go to the Nokia service center and have them do it for you.

These services are so cheap and so readily available in Thailand that I would not bother playing around with it.

As to why it happened - clearly a hardware or software issue. Unless of course you "found" this phone somewhere, but I won't assume that .... :o

Traveler, I tried your link...the codes they offered looked promising but did not work.

Reimar, your codes were rejected as well...it only asks for: ENTER RESTRICTION CODE

Nikster, (all my Greek friends are named Nik)...God, I hope this is not YOUR phone that I found (joking). In the 1st sentence of my initial post I mentioned that I did buy the phone NEW. And yeah, you are probably correct...off to the phone center. I guess I am just curious how it could all of a sudden happen without any pre-emptive activity...

Cheers

TT, might I suggest you cease if these sites, which are often hosting the same software are not 'unrestricting' your phone. You only get 5 attempts at this thereafter even if you have the valid code it won't work but needs a cable connexion + sofware to access it and reset.

Seriously though, 3 years is a heck of a long time to use the same phone, I'm suprised if this is your first time with a problem. You really should consider just getting something new and improved... technology changes so much in 3 years you might suddenly feel like your new phone was a device from star trek.

Just tried removing the battery while phone is still on...no luck. Thanks

I guess I am anti-'planned-obsolescence'...(I like cars and guitars from the '60's)
