DERANGED GERMAN URINATES IN SHOP BEFORE TRYING TO SLASH HIS NECK AND WRIST

A seemingly deranged German man went into a Family Mart store in Pattaya, on July 25, 2008, smashed a soda bottle and used the broken glass to try and cut his neck, seriously injuring himself. Police took more than an hour in an attempt to successfully calm him down.

Pol.Col. Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya Superintendent, was notified on July 25, at 1.10 AM, that a foreigner had used a broken glass bottle to injure himself. The incident took place at a Family Mart convenience store, Dolphin Roundabout branch, on Pattaya 2nd Road, North Pattaya. A police team and Sawang Boriboon Rescue subsequently rushed to the scene.

There, police found Mr. Ralf Gunter Krolkiewicz (53), a German citizen, shaken up and sitting at the rear of the store near the soda cases and the cold unit. He had a piece of broken glass from a soda bottle in his right hand, with which he had apparently tried to cut his wrist and throat. He had sustained serious wounds and was bleeding profusely.

Most of the customers were frightened by the insane display and had run out of the store. Police asked a favour of a German tourist, who was also in the shop, to try and talk some sense into Mr. Gunter to calm him down and get him to discard the broken glass, but without success. Mr. Gunter could not communicate effectively as he was in a state of shock and shaking as though afraid of being attacked. He neither listened to the police, nor the German who was trying to help.

Eventually, after an hour had passed, Mr. Gunter started to calm down and threw away the broken glass that he'd used to injure himself. The rescue team gave him first aid for the wounds on his neck and his left wrist and immediately took him for treatment to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Miss Rungthip Phimchart, (22), the store assistant manager, said that while she and her colleagues were working in the store, Mr. Gunter had come in in a highly agitated state and had spoken to them urgently, but no one could understand what he wanted. Mr. Gunter was shaking and walking around the store aimlessly, then suddenly started to urinate in his trousers.

After that, he went to the rear of store, grabbed a soda bottle, smashed it, sat on the floor and took a piece of broken glass to begin cutting himself. Seeing this alarming development, Miss Rungthip immediately called the police for help. Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya Superintendent, later informed press that the German tourist who had helped to communicate with Mr. Gunter, told him that, apparently, Mr. Gunter had come into the store looking for a toilet as he needed to urinate badly, but the store keepers had not understood him.

The German tourist also said that, in his opinion, Mr. Gunter looked like he was extremely anxiety prone and might lose control if he was frustrated. When he could not make anybody understand, he had lost control and started urinating spontaneously, before losing it completely and tried to inflict serious injuries on himself.

This is a time for the local German expat associations to take responsibility for his safety and investigate the matter.

He is obviously distressed and confused for some reason, looking at his expression in the right hand photo.

Sympathy and understanding is the order of the day please, fellow members.

Especially at this stage as to what has happened and without knowing why.

Marshbags, to the best of my knowledge no such association exists in Pattaya. the man needs obviously professional psychiatric help.

Herr Ralf-Günter Krolkiewicz is a book-author and was a theater director in Potsdam.

In 1984/85 he was imprisoned by the East German Secret Police. ohmy.gif

His breakdown was apparently due to his suffering from Morbus Parkinson.

My sympathy to the man involved.............................. as a Brit, living in Berlin for many years, may I just point out, however, that this is nowadays fairly normal behaviour for Germans ..... reunification has turned most of them bonks.....only think about Milchkaffee and Latte Macchiato......not like in the good old days when they were renowned for their diligence, discipline, Fleiß und so weiter........ das waren Zeiten...das waren Zeiten....... :o

Hiya Naam

I was thinking about the German section within the PEC for one.

Also isn,t there still the German version of the Pattaya Mail still up and running, along with groups that are dedicated to the German community ?

The German section of the PEC if i am allowed to mention it to possibly assist our German members is :-

Deutschsprachiger Pattaya Expats Club - Jeden 1 und 3 Samstag im Monat 10:00 Uhr morgens im Konferenzsaal des Wat Chaimongkon an der South Pattaya Road. Jeder ist eingeladen. Fur Info: Andy 08 5095 7077 – Expats helfen Expats - (www.pattayaexpatsclub.de)

Taking responsibility and investigating envelops a series of actions that may help him.

Medically this includes possible stroke and other brain damage, brain haemorrhaging ect. that can produce similar effects as is described in the OP

It also includes the professional psychiatric help, you refer to.

One would hope of course that the BPH would as a matter of course check for possible causes, other than assume he was just drugged up or whatever.

Also if he has no funds then it may limit what is done to properly examine him, and hopefully the expats whatever, may be able to assist him should it be able to do, so along with reassuring him in his native language and provide important translation for the hospital /authorities

Thanks

Does anyone have any updates on this by the way regarding his wellbeing and the reasons why.

I tend to go on the benefit of the doubt on this one because.........

I,ve seen several similar examples of his condition when i was associated with old people back home, especially the confusion and urination scenario, along with unintelligible communication and inviaribly, * minor strokes or worse were usually the reason why.

* When it was out of character and not Dementia related, of course.

I've been caught short before, in Tesco Lotus and believe me, it's not nice (luckily I was standing near the durians and that helped mask the smell) although I realise there's alot more to it than that in this case.

Let's hope this fella gets some help.

Lucky for him he didn't pull this off were I live the cops donot have that much patience. If he hadn't disposed of the glass shard right he would have went down in a hail of bullets. Give the cops some credit for taking their time to let this guy unwind.
