Marriage Question

Featured Replies

The general level of healthcare received by most Thais being lower than generally avaliable in Western countries, do you who have married Thai ladies taken the step of have a general health check-up performed as part of you pre-marital negotiations? I refer to the comprehensive health check-ups offered by most hospitals - with special emphasis on women's health issues in these pre-marital cases. The tests would also check the "reproductive" health of the women to insure there were no physical impediments (to the extent possible) to her becoming pregnant.

How have your partner's reacted to being asked to under go such a screening?

Seems you'd not want to go ahead with the marriage if she had any fertility problems ? ? That could be quite hurtful, I'd think, and would need to be handled carefully. You'd need to have a good, open discussion about your mutual expectations, I'd think, and be sure to undergo fertility testing yourself.

I think the only appropriate time to suggest such tests would be directly before attempting to have a baby. Suggesting this test before marriage can only lead one to believe that if the bride to be was barren you'd be out the door....?

Bear in mind that most governments require health screening if you intend to apply for a spouse visa or similar. Would check out the requirements for your particular country. Would be silly to pay for two lots of checks - though I doubt the visa health check would specifically consider fertility if that is the main concern here.

Quite a difference in emphasis, I would suggest, T.B for longer than a six month visit (UK) or health check for fertility, one is statutory the other is personal choice, but the differences between the two are vast and not just the basic terms I set out.
