Could you please produce some photos from the connector side of both devices? and the Model No. and brand of the CD-Player as well.

On the photos we should be able to see the description of the connectors.

Thanks and cheers.

sorry i can not supply pics

however this is very straight forward stuff

they are 3 RCA input females on the side

one for video 2 for audio

there are 6 in the back

3 of the same and 3 for output

the CD player is a portable Phillips

It works fine

tested out on a large screen TV system

directly connecting in the back

never had any problems before with other tv sets

since i tried this on 4 TVs of the same model at the apartment complex

i suspect there is some setting i need to change

or even worse

the RCA audio inputs in both the front and back of this model TV

are not hooked up inside the TV, factory issue

could that really be the case?

would i have to open the TV to see/know?

this one has got me puzzled big time

guess i need to test the TVs with a DVD or vcd player but currently don't have one

thanks much

If you are confident you have connected everyhting correctly. Check your DVD audio settings. It may be set to optical output or similar for dolby digital. Make sure you set to stereo or LC RC. This should be found in audio settings.

thanks

yes i checked the connections many times

this is a very straightforward hook up

its a CD player there are no DVD settings

i am hooking up the CD to a TV

there is no 'stereo' therefore no lc or rc settings for the TV, i checked

Many Samsung TV's have a feature that requires a live feed into a jack before it becomes active. The RCA jacks are a combo of video and audio in jacks. If the TV does not detect a live feed into the video portion of the three RCA jacks then all three remain dorment. Try connecting a live video feed to the video RCA jack(from a DVD player maybe) and then plug your CD player into the audio jacks. This will light up the inputs and you will get active options on your on-screen display.

A couple more things. If you are using a portable CD player are you getting the audio from a line out jack or are you using the headphone mini jack. If mini jack remember you are sending an amplified signal and you can damage your TV this way. Also another option is to buy a low end speaker/subwoffer set(less then 1000B) and use this instead of your TV speakers. You may find yourself using the external speakers for watching TV as well.

One last idea. On the remote for the TV there is a source button that toggles through all of the input options. It is usually marked TV/AV or TV/Video. Turn on the TV and it usually defaults to the coax input. Push the button and the on screen display will show which jacks are active with each push of the button. Toggle through until the RCA jacks with the live feed are active. I still recommend seperate external speakers though.

thanks folks

there is some really good stuff posted here

i think the issue is probably about not having a live video feed

the whole idea is to play my CD player without having to buy a DVD player or speakers but i may have no choice unless i can trick it to work somehow

in regards to the remote

there are very little options

just a video button that only changes from TV mode to video input

there are no other options

and to get out of video mode there is a TV button

very strange indeed!!!

i have never encountered this before on a TV set

perhaps it is cheaper and easier to design 2 devoted buttons then one toggle button

i should mention i have checked out about 4 of these TV models in my building and they are pure crap

the audio volume fluctuates by itself and kind of cuts out with a 'pop'

and there are red and green burn marks on the CRT

they can be seen in a white or sky scene

i thought samsung made good quality

perhaps these are knock offs

they really are lacking

fyi

thanks again
