Another 3 points yesterday and a good win over ICT. Griffiths with a hat trick may turn out to be an excellent bit of business. Good to see Fergus McCann back at Parkhead. Celtic owe him so much it is nice to see him getting well deserved recognition.smile.png

A 3-0 win at Rugby Park tonight thanks to a Kris Commons hat- trick all in the second half. Despite having most of the play in the first half Celtic created very little. They were generally uninspired in the final third. Izaguirre in particular had a number of dreadful crosses mostly into the goalies hands. Within a minute Stokes had the ball in the net but he was well offside.

It looked for a while in the 2nd half like more of the same but in the 57th minute Mulgrew burst forward passed to Commons and Griffiths gave him an excellent return which Commons placed neatly into the corner. Within 2 minutes he scored again when he met a cross from Matthews in a crowded area to guide it home. In the 86th minute he completed the hat -trick with a well placed drive into the corner.

Celtic wrapped up the title with a 5-1 win over Partick Thistle at Firhill tonight.smile.png

They got off to a flyer with a headed goal from Stokes in the 3rd minute. Celtic led by this at half time. At this stage our Glasgow opponents were still well in the game but a quick fire double early in the 2nd half sealed the issue. Young 17y/o Liam Henderson scored the 2nd with a fine shot after a dummy from Commons. Ironically his father was a former player with Thistle. A few minutes late Johansen burst through a wide open defense and drilled in No 3. With 5 minutes to go Thistle pulled one back through Elliott. Celtic finished in style with late goals by Stokes a fine effort this and almost inevitably Commons who shot through the goalies legs.

A glass or two in the morning would be in order CB to help digest the porridge.tongue.png

CELTIC have invited the 1967 European Cup-winning team and representatives of the team management and backroom staff to Lisbon at the end of May for this year’s Uefa Champions League final – the first time the final has been held in Lisbon since the Scots became to first British team to lift the trophy in 1967.

As well as attending the final, a visit has been lined up to the Estadio Nacional, scene of the club’s greatest victory, and they will also be guests at a special dinner at the famous Palacio Hotel in Estoril, where they stayed in 1967.

Captain of that illustrious team and Celtic ambassador Billy McNeill said: “This is a magnificent gesture by the club and one which is greatly appreciated by all the boys and the families of everyone connected to the team. It will be a fantastic opportunity for us all to re-live what we achieved on that great day in Lisbon in 1967.”

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell added: “These are great men who achieved great things for our club and we felt it would be a real and meaningful tribute to make this invitation to the Lions, the families of those players who sadly are no longer with us and, of course, the families of the great Jock Stein and Sean Fallon. The Lions are men of real humility and are always humble about their great success. They played the game in a very different footballing era to today.”

An eventful 3-3 draw away to Motherwell. The Well got off to a flyer with a 5th minute goal. A long ball should have been dealt with but Ambrose was far too slow to react and Sutton strode on to it and fired under Forster for the lead. The big goalie should have done better. Celtic did most of the pressing but were slow and predictable in the build up and rarely caused any problems. Celtic got a penalty midway through the half when Stokes went down under an injudicious challenge. It looked pretty soft but the Motherwell goalie made an excellent save from the Commons spot kick. In their rare forays Motherwell always looked dangerous and Celtic were caught again just before half time. Van Dijk was at fault this time as he reacted too slowly to another long ball and Francis-Angol forced the ball home. Stokes threw Celtic a lifeline in injury time when he curled the ball across goal and into the far top corner. It may have been meant as a centre.

Kayal headed off the line from Sutton early in the 2nd half before Celtic equalized when Samaras turned in from close range after Stokes had a shot following a long throw from Commons. Both sides went all out after that and Griffiths on as a sub put Celtic ahead with 6 minutes to go when he reacted smartly and put the ball into the corner with a clinical finish. But Celtic were unable to hold on to the advantage, In injury time Izaguirre went to sleep and allowed his opponent plenty of room to put in an excellent cross which Sutton turned in at the far post.

On the balance of play probably a fair result.

I recall early in the season having to come from 0-2 down to draw with ICT at Parkhead. Even allowing for their change of Manager it just goes to show that we can never be sure which Celtic are going to turn up on any given day.

A 3-3 draw tonight away to St Johnstone. Celtic made several changes from the side that had comfortable wins in the last 2 games and were 1-0 down at half time. It could easily have been more. Saints hit the post with a rocket after 30 seconds and May missed a penalty. It was a poor effort and Zaluska guessed correctly to save.

Lenny sent for the cavalry at HT and Brown and Commons came on. They leveled when Commons converted a spot kick and jumped into a 3-1 lead with 2 quick goals by Pukki and Van Dijk. I had spent most of the night watching events at the Etihad and to my surprise when I switched again the game was tied at 3-3. So no 100 points and I know that will disappoint CB.rolleyes.gif

Celtic finished the season with a 3-1 win at Parkhead against Dundee Utd.

After a flat first half which finished scoreless Celtic took the lead in 64 minutes. Good work by Commons led to a cross which Stokes nodded back across goal into the far corner. Samaras on as a sub and in all probability playing his last game for the club got no 2 from the spot after he was brought down by the Utd goalie. Utd who had the Cup Final next weekend very much in mind got a goal back within 3 minutes when Twardzic put through his own goal. Celtic clinched it in a further 3 minutes after a slip by Watson gave possession to Stokes. He played in Commons who rolled the ball past the keeper into the net.

Somewhat surprisingly Neil Lennon is leaving Celtic after 4 years in charge. With Champions League qualifiers in mid July Celtic will be in a rush to install a new Manager. At this stage most of the names being mentioned are all ex Celts.

Nobody seems to want to share with you cb, you can be forgiven for feeling oppressed.

Will Stokes get a big sentence or a big fine ?? The press/media not saying much about it.
