rbrb Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Will be going from Pattaya to Ko Chang soon, need to know: 1. Where is the downtown area/best for bars and nightlife, ie the Patong of Ko Chang!? 2. Assuming there is such a thing, what is the best hotel to stay in that area? 3. Can Ko Chang be done on a one day trip from Pattaya or is it better to stay at least one night? 4. Which is the best beach? 5. Any other info useful for first time visitors to KC??? Many thx in advance.
Trevor Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Skip dullsville Koh Chang and (if you need) take a girl from Bkk or Pattaya to coral island Koh Wai to the south. You'll need to spend a night in the Trat hotel on the way. Boat leaves from Laem Ngop at 15.00h. Open season October - April only. My lass loved it.

Siam beach is the best beach trully one of the best in thailand, Ko chang is stunning and unless you spend your life slumped over a bar re-enforcing the veiw that all farang are drunken losers I would recomend a few days at least, hire a bike and hit some of the waterfalls, explore a little, get out of the pub get some sunshine and see thailand proper

ProfessorFart Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Toast wars is talking through his backside. White Sands beach is beautiful and not in the least bit dirty. Some good spots are 15 Palms (good food and drink) and Oodies for live music and a good atmosphere. Despite recent develpoment WSB is still a very pleasant spot. You can get a minivan/ferry package from Pattaya but its more fun to do it yourself via Rayong/Chanthaburi/Trat. You'll have to overnight in Trat and then head to Centrepoint for the ferry.

The beach in itself is not dirty (apart from all the broken glass and cigarette butts the cleaners don't find when they do their morning run), but there's heaps of rubbish lying around, clearly visible along the main street and in ditches. So far two Seven Elevens and girlie bars are on the increase. Not my idea of a good time, but White Sand Beach is definitely the place to be on Koh Chang if you are looking for somewhere that resembles places like Pattaya or Patong in Phuket. Not to the same extent of course, but well on the way.
