Team Chanaa Lert

Featured Replies

Been watching the Olympics on the local channels and keep hearing the term Team chanaa lert ,hope i'm hearing it correctly ,does this mean the national team or am I off base. By the way go the Aussies.

thanks in advance.

'chanaa lert' (ชนะเลิศ) basically means to win the championship/gold medal. You often hear it in the Olympics in the names of the rounds -

Final (round) - รอบชิงชนะเลิศ 'rorp ching chana lert' (รอบ = round, ชิง = compete for , ชนะเลิศ = become the champion)

Semi-final - รอบรองชนะเลิศ 'rorp rong chana lert'

Quarter-final - รอบก่อนรองชนะเลิศ 'rorp gorn rong chana lert'

'Team chanaa lert' (ทีมชนะเลิศ) would be "the championship winning team", but the names of the rounds are much more commonly used, I think it's those you're probably hearing most often.

Mike's already got it all explained. I'll just add that National Team would be ทีมชาติ -Team(m) Chaat(f).

These games have been fun to watch, I've thoroughly enjoyed them. China has put on a great show. Go USA and Thailand!

Thank's to you all for your explanations like my daughter say's maybe I am going senile, I should have figured it out myself Puu chanaa = winner therefore Puu chanaa lert =champion. By the way lets hope Thailand does well also . My daughter also gave me stick for not rooting for Thailand too, so Chaiyo Thailand. Thank's again to you all.
