Colonel Sanders is giving another one his fiery speeches...

Haha, He does have a striking resemblance to Colonel Sander the Kentucky Fried Chicken man.

A good tip for him would be to give up on his Hitler style speeches and join KFC. A good career move.

One must wonder if Khun Suriyasai was in the 5am invasion,

or 2,000 people who showed up later as originally planned.

I suspect the latter, but 'the authorities' will try to lump him in

with the former as THEY planned.

They purposely left that one vague.. n'est pas?

One need not be parnoid to think that

there ARE conspiracies within conspiracies here.

All in all it is wonderful that no attack happened last night,

and things are being done with cooler heads.

Best strategy; wait it out, and show NO VIOLENCE.

The world will respect Thailand all the more.

If this action by PAD causes the price of beer to rise in the capital there is going to be hel_l to pay!............................. They have had their fifteen minutes in the spotlight and have fooled innocent Thai people long enough.

IMHO

Agreed with your entire post (Didn't want to muck up the forum with a reprint.) Thank you for taking the time to post that.

The current PAD is led by Chamlong Srimuang, one of the most highly respected Thais of modern generations and the leader of the 1992 pro democracy movement.

A large proportion of the population see Chamlong as a nutty cult leader. Read up on his history with Santi Asoke- real cuckoo land people.

Some may laugh about Santi Asoke ideas....don't take drugs, take care nature, work hard and help poor one, don't do harm to anyone.

But read about the 1992 event.....Chamlong saved Thailand from going the way of Myanmar, whatever some uneducated people think about him there are historic facts.

But don't you support the PAD's plan for the military to "oversee" the appointed government?

Sounds like Myanmar to me.

Sure doesn't look like;

An unraveling of the social fabric.

Rioting and anarchy in the streets.

Violent wannabe despots.

Looks just about the same as the pictures

of the Kings Birthday gatherings awhile back.

A sea of yellow shirts and Thai flags,

and mothers and grandmothers,

and a general cross section of the Thai populace.

I sure wouldn't want to be seen giving this crowd a beating....

As well in Myanmar the military does not "oversee" an appointed government, it is the government....and you are a Troll

If they weren't PAD members that raided NBT, then Chamlong made a big goof when he wanted to demand their release.

It seemed that Sondhi and Chamlong accepted they were PAD, there were not any denials.

I don't think this has much to do with politics at all now (unless it has a much deeper twist to it). It is basically about egos and telling a few thousand middle aged women they really should go home, when this is the most excitement they have had in years.

The trouble with protests is you get a psychological wave over them that affects those who tend to otherwise have very boring and unfilling lives. Difficult to get them back when there is not much to go back to.

This is in no way a put down of a portion of the Thai population, but a wake up call that this is not going to be a way of improving their situation. If there comes a day when they can form a protest without the condescending rhetoric of leaders that talk to the crowd as if they are a group of brainless 3 yr olds; then that will be the day they will have moved forward. If you can see protests where there are actually intelligent demands and strategy then some progress will have been made.

That will also be the day when they do have lives to go back to and be able to have meaningful rhetoric with the government without carrying on in a never ending urban blockade disguised as a Karaoke show.

Army chief holds the trump card

By Thanong Khanthong

The Nation

Published on August 28, 2008

Who will prevail in the end between Samak Sundaravej, the prime minister, and the People's Alliance for Democracy?

We should know the result over the next few days, as a clash of this massive scale can't be allowed to drag on for too long.

Political tension heightened yesterday after the Criminal Court agreed to a police request to issue arrest warrants against nine leaders of the PAD on charges of treason and creating unrest.

As soon as he heard about the arrest warrant against him, Chamlong Srimuang, one of the PAD's core leaders, calmly sat down in the middle of the crowd on the lawn in front of Government House.

The scene was reminiscent of the tragedy in May 1992, when he led a street protest against the Suchinda government and sat on Rajdamnoen Road before he was taken away by authorities on similar charges.

The other PAD leaders facing arrest include Sondhi Limthongkul, Pipop Thongchai, Somkiat Pongpaiboon, Somsak Kosaisuk, Suriyasai Katasila, Chaiwat Sinsuwong, Amorn Amornrattananont, and Therdpoom Chaidee.

Heads of the Alliance, in fact, welcomed the warrants, as it is likely to intensify the turmoil and focus attention on their actions.

Any hope they have of bringing down the Samak government through street protests depends critically on mass support over the next few days, particularly sympathy from the middleclass, as well as how the military opts to play the game in this predicament.

Several thousand PAD supporters have already taken over areas outside Government House, which is Thailand's equivalent of the White House. They have vowed to camp inside the compound until they succeed in ousting the Samak government for good and pushing for "new politics", whatever that means.

The PAD suffered an initial setback when video footage on Tuesday showed their members armed with weapons and cloaked in black, ambushing NBT, a TV news station run by the Public Relations Department. Somehow their game plan went out of control. But that was just the first round of this fight. The PAD is now trying more footwork to keep its momentum alive.

Samak has already become a lame duck prime minister. He has allowed the PAD to capture Government House. He has to hold meetings at the Army headquarters on the Chaeng Wattana Road, 20 kilometres away from downtown Bangkok.

He is looking at ways to strike back at the PAD. But how can he do it?

First, Samak may opt to sit back and do nothing. But this proposition is not feasible, as reclaiming Government House must be a top priority.

Second, Samak may need to bring in the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship. The DAAD "red shirts" may be enlisted to take on the PAD "yellow shirts". That would fuel further violence, but the end result would certainly not go his way.

Third, Samak must arrest the core leaders of the PAD, then find a way to quash their supporters inside Government House. This is what he's trying to do. The arrest warrants have been issued for the PAD's leaders. It's now the job of police to try to take these men away in handcuffs.

Fourth, Samak might in the end find it impossible to continue as premier. In this case, he can either resign from office to pave the way for Parliament to form a new government. Or he can dissolve Parliament to call a snap election.

For the PAD, its strategy is simple. It can withdraw from Government House and return to its camp at the Makkawan Rangsan Bridge. But this idea is out of the question as the PAD has decided to launch what it calls the "final war" and is going for broke.

Second, the PAD may want to fight a violent war in order to initiate political change.

Sources say the PAD wants Samak to step down to pave the way for Parliament to form a national government - with an outsider as prime minister. They want a new government to reform the country so it can make a break from "old politics" and the yoke of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Doing so would require a suspension of some articles in the Constitution.

The question is whether the military would go along with such a game plan. The latest military reshuffle, signed by Samak on Tuesday, has further strengthened Gen Anupong Paochinda, the Army chief, as the most powerful figure in Thailand. Whichever side he picks, that party will win in this power play. But at the moment, it's too hard to read his mind yet.

Sondhi L strips to only his underwear and then got his yellow shirt with the words "we will fight for the King" and puts on his shorts.

btw, this was in public.

Sorry couldn't resist posting this, maybe Sondhi is getting carried away with all those middle aged ladies there. Maybe this would be enough to get some of them on those free buses home. The plot thickens!

The latest military reshuffle, signed by Samak on Tuesday, has further strengthened Gen Anupong Paochinda, the Army chief, as the most powerful figure in Thailand

He is not the most powerful figure in Thailand! The most powerful one has not come in play yet.

Will the monks inside be murdered like those in the Burma demonstrations? :D

No SJ, that only happens under military dictatorships

I'm sure they feel comfortable now with your personal assurances of their safety.

or at least as comfortable as those from the Drug War, Tak Bai, etc. of the civilian dictatorship of a prior administration.

The government has done nothing but show incredible restraint in dealing with the PAD. The PAD has repeatedly provoked the government/police and continue to do so.Are you so blinded by your hatred of Thaksin and the current administration that you don't see what the rest of the world sees? You should be thankful no one has been hurt...but you seem to be looking for a fight. You and Sondhi would be overjoyed to see monks or women killed wouldn't you? Of course you'd cry foul...and play the victim...you've probably rehearsed your lines already. I'm sure Sondhi has had his martyr speech written for months.....if only he had some blood.

The protesters/monks/women can go home. They've been warned countless times...even offered a free ride.....but if the shit hits the fan you'll be screaming "Oh the humanity..the innocent and downtrodden!"

People have heard enough of the PAD.

<snip>

Beautifully put, Pumpuiman!

I've posted before expressing suprise that seemingly sane TVers are so blinded by their hatred of Thaksin that they can't see the wood for the trees! PAD stands for everything evil in Thai society: the old patrician families mired in corruption and patronage, crazy old ex-generals, failed business men, the elitist hatred of the rural population, and, most importantly, the belief that if you can't win an election, just do away with them and "appoint" yourself as PM!

Unlike SJ and his followers, if the Democratic Party had won the last election (maybe a few more cinema tickets would have helped! :o ) we would have accepted it, and allowed them to form a government and run out their term in office (that's what happens in a real Democracy.....you criticise them for all your worth, BUT YOU WAIT for the next election and then work like H@ll to get your side elected!).

Anyway, it's clear that PAD is now a spent force, masterfully emasculated by Samak's refusal to fall into their trap and start a bloody battle on the streets. I never had much time for Samak (to be honest, I thought he was a bit of a bufoon), but he and his advisors have played this perfectly!

Sondhi just told that the Prince will not come on the 30th.

but I did not understand, if he told that the Prince never planed to come and Samak just faked that or if the Prince changed his plan....

Maybe someone other has more details on that.

Pretty important thing.

Female official complains of "hooligan" behaviours" of PAD guards

A female official of the Cabinet Secretariat complained Thursday that four or five male guards of the People's Alliance for Democracy would search her body.

She said the guards would not allow her to enter pass through their line to work at her office and would search her body although she has shown them her official ID card.

She said even police would never search her when she went to work.

"These people have no authority and act like bandits … They behave and talk very rude to me," the official said, asking not to be named.

Five female officials also had to climb over the fence on Gate 5 opposite from the Education Department to go inside Government House compound to work because the PAD locked up the gate.

This is really scary watching this. The first coup has polorised this country. It has offered a ligitmized belief of PAD, it's key followers and leaders.

A closing of parliment, a new election with PAD running as a Party would show forever what following this crowd/mob has. This broadcast just supports what a feeble foundation PAD is walking on, they are now outside the law and should be arrested as such!!!!!!!!! If true PPP supporters were to go head to head with them, Bangkok's elite would end up in a pile of bloodied yellow shirt on the grounds of Parliment house.

Sondhi Limthongkul, a leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, claimed Thursday that Interior Minister Kowit Watana lied about the royal ceremony to be chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn at Government House.

But Sondhi told the crowd at the rally site inside Government House that he had checked with the Royal Household Bureau and learnt that the Crown Prince had no plan to chair any ceremony at Government House on Saturday.

Speaking to the crowd inside Government House at 11 am, Chamlong urged people outside to move in and said all gates would be closed soon to prevent police raid.

He said it there are many people inside, it would be difficult for police to forcefully disperse the protesters.
