Cat Cdma/evdo Service In Mukdahan/savannakhet?

Featured Replies

I'm doing a visa run next week to the Savannakhet, Laos. I've stayed at the Hong Thip hotel in the past and just barely had a GPRS connection (it's 2-3 blocks from the Mekong river bank). It was "True" GPRS service... 1 bar, perhaps 2 bars service at times... I could live with it for checking e-mail or light surfing.

I recently purchased a CAT CCU-680 CDMA/EVDO modem. Does Mukdahan have CAT CDMA/EVDO service? Is there any spill-over service from Mukdahan extending into Savannakhet? That is to say are any of the CAT CDMA towers in Mukdahan within range of Savannakhet?

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks for the coverage link.

Just answering my own question here for future reference...

CAT CDMA EV-DO Rev. A does work in Savannakhet, Laos (from the Hoong Thip hotel anyway)

AIS and DTAC EDGE connections are also strong. True is only providing GPRS (no EDGE) and the signal is quite low.

Tip... turn your mobile phone off-on to force a switch to the nearest cell tower. We had 5 mobile phones in our group and we all had to turn them off-on to get a better signal.
