Rob5060
I have some railings around the house that need painting They are not too bad but have some rust Is it worth trying to remove it or as some products suggest just painting on top of the rust Cheers
Crossy
If you're using a product such as Hammerite that is intended to be applied to rusty metal then all you have to do is use a wire-brush to remove the loose rust, rinse it off and paint, obviously it must be totally dry so this time of year is not perfect Look here http://www.hammerite.com/uk/products/usage...etal_paint.html
lannarebirth
Wire brush as much of the rust off as possible. Apply Ospho, which you should be able to find at marine supply shops. All set for new paint.
cmsally
We use something to patch up any rust holes that they use for cars. Don't know what the name is but you mix the 2 components together and it is a red colour. It smells really strongly thats the only drawback. Good durable stuff. jkinbkk
Prior to any paint application you will first need to apply a 'rust converter'! This will neutralise the existing rust and ensure no further corrosion takes place under the paint coating once it is applied. If you want more details on a quality 'rust converter', drop me an email.
