I was wondering if any long term female residents have had pap test here in Chiang mai, and if anyone can make a recommendation about where to have it done?

I would prefer a female doctor to do it.

About how much does it cost?

thanks.

Try Chiang Mai Ram near Kad Suan Kaew. I have heard bad reports about Lana Hospital not being good regarding your privacy during visits. Sorry I don't remember how much it cost. Most medical here is not very expensive.

Yes, Ram Hospital is probably the best bet in CM: http://www.chiangmairam.com/welcome.php?lang=en .

For specialist consultations, you need to make an appointment. The specialists seem to be there for a few hours on certain days. The hospital will tell everyone to come at the time when the doctor starts their session. Or possibly, they'll give you a more specific time, but the reality seems to be that whoever arrives first and identifies themself at the appropriate desk will be seen first, so be early. That's been my experience, anyway. Bring a book in any case.

If privacy issues look likely, ask beforehand for the door to be kept shut. Just say this is "farang" culture :D . If any problems do arise, give a dismayed look in the offending direction and if that fails, ask. However, I think it's unlikely you'll have this problem at Ram.

More likely is some degree of clumsiness in the doctor :o , but it's also quite possible you'll get someone who knows what they're doing. I don't think regular PAP smears are routine for the majority of Thai women.

Please report back here & especially, let us know if you find a good gynaecologist there.

All the best.

My wife walked into a bar, on Loi Kroi, sits down and asks the bartender, "Can you make a recommendation? She whispers her requirement into the bartenders ear discretely" The bartender replies, "Yes, as a matter of fact, we can offer you a solution, that was invented by a gynecologist who is a patron

of ours. Its a special drink. It's a mix of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and Smirnoff vodka." My wife sez, "Geez, what kind of drink is that?" The bartender

responds, "We call it a Pabst Smir."

Heh :D . Make that one up yourself Gonzo ?

Thinking of wives, how about you chaps ask your Thai wives/other female family members/girlfriends about recommendations for us ? Not sure how much Thai gymboxgirl speaks, but seems she's at least fairly new to CM. Ram hospital can't have the only English-speaking doctors.

I asked the wife and she replied.." What's that?"

As I tried to explain as only a male could, I noticed what could be described as the biting into a lemon look on her face.

I can thoroughly recommend Dr. Varathep. He is a gyni-obstretics specialist and has a clinic on Nimmahemin Road, close to the Paparazzi Bar. I paid about 300 baht and was very impressed with his English skills and manner. He is pretty much full time at his clinic (you will see 'English spoken' in the window), but you should not go late in the afternoon for the test as it needs to be sent to the lab.

I would also be interested in recommendations. But female doctors. Call me old fashioned, but i just cannot go see a male doctor for something like that.

Thanks for the answers, I will check them out.

I too would like a female to do it, so if anyone knows any lady doctors who they can recommend that would be great.

I know the biting on the lemon look as it probably the same one as I have on my face when I'm having it done. ugh. :o

Saw Waa Taw near the British Council. My wife went to day.

Now she is asking me all sorts of questions about why would I be talking about this issue with another woman on the internet... Joy.

Ram Hospital has a female gynecologist as far as I know. She's taken care of my partner in the past and seems to know her business.
