Visa To Us For Burmese Boyfriend In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello ladies:

Anyone have advice for this one. I have been dating my boyfriend for over a year. I am back in the US and he is in Thailand but not a Thai citizen(Burmese/Mon). He is on his way to getting Thai citizenship but it will probably take a few more years!! I want to get him a visa to come to the US but am not ready to commit to marriage so I am hesitant about a K-1 finace visa. Does anyone have advice about other ways to get him to the US?

Thanks,

Marrissa Flower

I am going to move this to the visas to other countries section, there might be someone there who has a burmese partner who has tried for a visa

hi marrissa

good luck with your plans. as far as i am aware it is almost impossible for burmese to gain thai citizenship. DO NOT count on the thai government to help any person from myanmar (unless they are military brass, which would automatically exclude your bf, being an ethnic mon). if you want to him to come to america the best thing to do would be to apply for either a marriage or spouse visa. you would have to check with your immigration dept (website is often most helpful), and find out what you need to prove that you are in a continuing relationship.

you will have to provide evidence that you lived together, and indend on maintaining this relationship in the us. so that would require things like photos, receipts, statements from friends and family, emails, etc, etc. no drama. not being a thai citizen should not be a problem, as he can just travel on his myanmar passport or, failing that, apply for refugee status...

BUT - like i say - before you do anything, you should check with the us immigration laws about what visas there are covering relationship-type visas.

ps - 'hello ladies'????
