Thanks for the kind comment. We take comfort that he will not have to suffer old age. Our other two dogs are getting a bigger share of love and doggy snacks!

are there any methods of deterring snakes from coming near your house?

Mrs. Lannaman is quite knowedgeable about this sort of thing. She says there is a shrub called Salaid Pangporn which snakes will not come near. Not sure about the spelling of Salaid, but you could ask for the plant at a garden centre, and I'm sure they would know it. I'll have to get some of its leaves to put in my boots! See photo.

Every parent read the story of Rikki Tikki Tavi to their children.

You know, the mongoose. That was faster than the fastest cobra in the world.

Aw, forget it.... :o

Looking at that linked thread, apparently mongooses are very territorial and will kill small yapping dogs. Does anyone know where I can get one of these little critters near Cha am?

Perhaps lannaman is a lot younger than us and went to school in a more politically correct time when Kipling was banned from innocent young eyes along with other "racists" and "imperialists". :D

Now it is not good for the Christian's health to hustle the Aryan brown.

For the Christian riles, and the Aryan smiles and he weareth the Christian down;

And the end of the fight is a tombstone white with the name of the late deceased,

And the epitaph drear: "A Fool lies here who tried to hustle the East.

Now that sounds like sense to me but I'm a dinosaur.
