http://centermeditation.org/hp_thai.html is the web stie but it is all in Thai

according to the leaflet at Section 5 the meditation times are 7 am - 10 am

1pm - 4 pm

6 pm - 8 pm

food is at 6 am for overnight guests, and 11 am for lunch (all welcome). You can stay overnight taking the 8 precepts, and there is usually someone around who can speak some English and give basic meditation instructions. Though it is the foreigner section it is usually filled with Thai's. Still, it is fairly peaceful, and is the only centre open in Bkk for foreigners every day.

Hi,

Has anybody done meditation at Wat Mahathat (Wat Mahadhhatu) in Bangkok?

How long are the periods of walking and sitting each?

Thanks,

A1

Wat Mahathat has it's own, particular form of meditation, called, not surprisingly, Wat Mahathat Style. It's based on the meditation teachings of some Burmese dude, Sayadaw I think is his name. Generally one is free to sit and walk at their leisure, but the recommended format is to sit for 30 mins, walk for 30 mins, repeat. Sitting practice is based on the observation of 'rising-falling' of the abdomen. Walking is a six step process of observation... 'heel up, lifting, moving, touching, placing'... oh wait that's only five, I forget one. You get the picture anyway.
