Pedigree Kittens

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to get hold of a nice pedigree kitten for my children, preferrably a british shorthair type, can anyone advise the best place to go, I've seen some at the weekend market but most look really quite sick are there any proper breeders / pet shops out here?

Hi Lottie,

Not sure why you would like a pedigree kitten. Unfortunately, there are quite some risks in purchasing an unhealthy kitten or pup from a pet market or shop, such as being sold at too young an age or the young animal having one of the infectious diseases. Vaccination books that are often given to the new pet owner, does not always mean the pet has really received the first vaccinations.

Another option is to get a rescued kitten. The rescue organisations normally will first nurse back to health the animal (provided they are sick, that is, as not all the animals they rescue have health problems), then vaccinate and spay or neuter them. Changes of getting a healthy animal from a rescue organisation is, therefore, higher (unless, of course, the animal does has some sort of ongoing health problem, which they normally will tell the new pet owner). And so far as I know, kittens and their mother usually go to foster homes before they are old enough to be adopted.
