How To View Avi Files On A Ppc

Featured Replies

Windows Pocket Media player doesn't play AVI files? How come the desktop version does and the mobile version doesn't?

What do other use? I like to pass boring airline journeys watching a movie on my PPC - those 700mb AVI files from torrent fit my needs. I use TCPMP for this but it seems flaky.

Use the VLC Player from VideoLan which can play most of the available movies incl. AVI files. VLC is freeware.

Cheers.

Unfortunately the VLC team abandoned the PocketPC port...

Only a non supported/updated beta version is available.

Look at this site: http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/vlc-m...-pocket-pc.html or this: http://www.downloadatoz.com/media-player-for-pocket-pc/

From the developers website! I have it on my PPC and it is not stable, nor is it optimized for recent (Windows mobile 5 and upwards) OS...

I realize you are talking about direct .avi players but another choice and what I do is use PocketTV. I use TMPGEnc with PocketPC templates to convert from .avi to MPEG. Takes a 700MB .avi and reduces it to around 50MB depending on the final resolution you wish. This link in encoding shows different methods to do it.

Thanks for the replies guys.. but I'm still without an AVI player for my PPC... ah well I'll keep looking...

I'm not really after any conversion players, I just want to play the AVI's straight. The VLC player links don't seem to work either for the PPC but I have the desktop version already.

So far TCPMP seems best but it is having buffering problems on my machine... and hangs before the movie ends... amazing there is not more of a market for these players?
