First time I've come across one of these bugs, can anyone identify it?

Cheers Farma definatly looks like a long horn.

hi

we get loads of these after the first rains in the pattaya area - especially in our school's early years leafy kiddies playground - the latin name has been thrown at me a few times and the Thai name has gone in one ear and out the other many times. They live behind the bark of a certain tree...

The kids aren't afraid of them - just pick em up and play with em like dolls and action men (unfortunately). None bitten so far. I do try to protect them by encouraging the little ones to respect these awesome critters....

The local labourers catch them for food - ground with spices to make some sort of chilli paste ...

I found this one in my garden a couple of weeks ago. Similar shape but very different colour.

Me, me, me......I'll name it...................Daphne...that's nice name. Yes, we'll call it Daphne.

Quote from somewhere: "God must have liked beetles - he made a lot of them."

How do they taste? :o

Well, they are crushed up with a lot of chili and spice and in the end all you can taste is bitter crunchy chiili and spice....

I just saw this thread... well, the black and yellow beetle posted by cmsally is Pachyteria dimidiates.

A very good help for identifying insects of Thailand, especially of northern Thailand, is the following link:
