taxidriver Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Lets face it, we do complain a lot sometimes. So, what would you change about Thailand if you were given the power? Some examples, land ownership, closing times, the way they think or nothing at all. This was inspired from reading several topics, so forgive me if it's old.
ProfessorFart Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 I'd have a stringent driving test. Thats it really.
dugdig Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Amen to the Professor's suggestion. I'd augment that with real enforcement of driving laws.
Spee Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 So, what would you change about Thailand if you were given the power? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't pretend to know enough about Thailand and its people yet, to be able to recommend any changes. However, if a gun were held to my head and someone forced me to make a suggestion, then it would be to improve infant and child health care (innoculations, vaccinations, etc.) and also add some legitimacy to the sex trade by requiring STD checks, condom usage, health care for sex workers, etc.
Duality Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 i'd bring thailand closer to the uk so i could earn a living wage in england and visit LOS on the weekends
cojones Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 ALL THAIS TO UNDERGO A BRAIN CHECK to check if they are crazy , just a little bonkers, screwy , or totally insane ! and then give them suitable medication especially ones driving cars trucks and bikes !
Axel Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 I would give more power to overseas education. Thailand has a lot of her people study abroad. Make use of this experience both positive and negative. Too often people having studied or worked abroad fall back to the 'Thai way' once returned home or are not listened to. So, I would make more of these sources. On one hand: Not to make the same mistakes they saw or experienced while abroad. On the other: Adopt for Thailand what worked positive abroad.
English Noodles Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Well if i could wave a magic wand and make it happen i would make the Thai economy and the peoples wages etc in-line with the western world. Sorry the cheap Charlies out there your easy livin life style would have just come crashing down.
Boon Mee Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 What would I change? the attitude that Farang get "special" price!
dugdig Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Well if i could wave a magic wand and make it happen i would make the Thai economy and the peoples wages etc in-line with the western world.Sorry the cheap Charlies out there your easy livin life style would have just come crashing down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is a very interesting post. At the risk of starting a big flame war I'll ask, "Why."
Ken Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Well if i could wave a magic wand and make it happen i would make the Thai economy and the peoples wages etc in-line with the western world.Sorry the cheap Charlies out there your easy livin life style would have just come crashing down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can't say your wish would be all that welcome to a lot of "retirees" who are not "cheap Charlies", but do have to live on a limited income. And of course with the economy and wages "in-line" with the Western world, would come a host of other "Western" problems (I think). But having said that, I could wish for a change for the better in the government.
SK1972 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Hmmmm.....thats a tough one......I would say to CLEAN UP!!! Thailand is filthy, especially in Bangkok. Thailand should also try to clean up its "image" too and improve education for her new generation!!
Gazza Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I wouldn't change a thing. Funnily enough, I like Thailand just the way she is. The bad along with the good makes Thailand what she is.
Padkapow Guy Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Make the retirement laws a little more friendly. no more visa runs.
Jockstar Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I'd make it easier to get a longterm visa. Instead of having to leave every 90 days
jackr Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Stop making those who are married having to report their <deleted> addresses every 3 months, surely yearly would be enough. Quite pathetic in this day and age.
RamdomChances Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Climate, people, goverment, food, scenary, yea that should do it
sonthaya Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I wouldn't change a thing. Funnily enough, I like Thailand just the way she is. The bad along with the good makes Thailand what she is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm all for that, leave it as the Thailand we know and love
sonthaya Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Make the retirement laws a little more friendly. no more visa runs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll go for that as well, I hope to move to Thailand next year on retirement visa, with a Thai wife, but the rules are so complicated.
Simbo Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Strange. Of all the changes, nobody has mentioned corruption. Thats the number one thing that would vastly improve this country, but why bother mentioning it if it will never stop.
utapaortnab Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Lets face it, we do complain a lot sometimes. So, what would you change about Thailand if you were given the power? I'd make European/American toilets mandatory in all public places including petrol/gas stations and toilet paper furnished in all. I've made 35 trips to Thailand in all since 1971 and my one pet peeve is the bombsite toilet facilities and no available toilet paper. I know it's "their" country and their custom, but IF the want the tourists, this one "perk" would provide more than any other methinks.
