One Day Thai Lang Classes For Visitors

Featured Replies

I have a guest coming soon, and she expressed her wishes to engaged in a one day Thai language class for visitors. any suggestions? thanks

Not to say it doesn't exist, but I've never heard of such a class. I'd imagine such a thing would be of very little practical benefit. Your friend might like to spend a day trying a few of the free demo lessons that many of the bigger private schools provide. My best advice to a very casual learner would be to get hold of either a copy of Pimsleur's Thai or Linguaphone Thai PDQ (not the Linguaphone complete course).

A one day language course would not accomplish much at all.

At most it could provide a very brief theoretical overview of the language for somebody who is curious, or alternatively with a more hands-on approach, it could introduce a handful of short phrases but would not be enough to ensure proper pronunciation for the vast majority of learners.

Then again, the most common phrases like สวัสดี - สบายดีไหม - อร่อย etc. will often be understood even when badly mispronounced.

When I first arrived in Thailand I already knew the numbers and how to ask how much something costs. It think this was useful, all the rest I tried to study by myself was not understood (because my pronunciation was totally wrong). Spending 1 day of a short holiday in Thailand for studying Thai is a waste of time.

Agreed, a complete waste of time.
