Banks In Thailand

Is there any protection on our savings in Thailand? Are banks protected? Coming from Belgium, we are used to good laws (see Fortis, Dexia, …) and every bank account is protected up to 20.000 Euro. I do believe in Thailand there is none. And how can we follow up? (ok, I look at the Bangkok Stockmarket, that’s one way). Is Bangkok Bank a good one? And Bank of Ayudhya? Other ones? Is there a top 5?

I’m not talking about the services – I am very satisfied for these 2. Just want to know if they are strong enough during this turbulent times.
