My Chev Colorado battery is 3.5 yrs old and is starting to trun over the engine slowly. Rather than have it crap out on me at a bad time and place, I would like to replace it with a decent quality battery.

It came new, equiped with a 70 ah 'Yuasa' battery. Seems like a decent lifespan for a battery??

Anyway, I'm wondering what other's recomendations for the best [most reliable] brand of battery to shop for. There are so many out there and the one other time I bought a battery, it was only good for 6 months and I don't want to go thru that again.

Any recomendations please????

Have bought Boliden 95 ah (i think worth paying small amount for more ahs) about 2 years ago still going strong starts old heater plug engine like it's a injected benzine just get in and turn the key bang it's going.

Never heard of that brand, but will look and do agree with you about extra ah being a good thing.

Yup. Generally speaking the biggest (electrical) belt comes from the battery costing the biggest baht. Lasts far longer too.

I have a couple of years frustration here with things (with names you've never heard of) losing their oomph after only a year or so. In one case 6 months.

Bosch, Vata and Denso (short for Nippondenso) are all excellent, and there's one other internationally known Japanese brand I would trust, if only I could remember it.

Was told last week that I'll have to spend 3,800b on a top quality big battery which will have to turn over a big V8. When the V8 is ready to turn, that is.

May the volts be with you.

All big brands are good, Yuasa, Furukawa (SF), Denso, 3K is a cheaper product, not bad but not as good as the premium brands. I'm lost at the"more amp" thing, why would more amp or better a/h be better? Your starter motor requires x amount of amps, when its freezing it needs a few more to turn the engine, but that doesnt occur much in LOS. So the extra amps are used for????? Unless ofcourse you have tv and heavy stereo in your car and run that when the car is idle or not running..... More amps will NOT increase lifetime, so in a standard vehicle you pay more for something you won't use.

''For your truck I recommend the 3K TX790. ''

Ok, what brand?? and assume that the 790 indicates 79 ah??? and 3k = 3,000THB

3K is the brand

TX790 is the model.

It the 100 amp/h model

The regular model is the NS100 but its only 70 amps.

I've tried many brands before and the 3K is the only brand that lasted me over 2 years.

The brand is heavily gaining reputation and their prices are very good compared to others.

The GS and yuasa brands never made it that far. I went through these brands quick.

I have never had a battery last more than 3 years in BKK.

One brand I do not recommend is the Bellco. They suck and are overrated meaning their 70 amp models only are tested to be like 50.

A coupla points to remember.

* The number of plates in the cells matter. 7 in a cheapy. 9 in a goody and 11 in a beauty!

* The amp/h rating is to do with how long the battery will function at 1 amp load. 85 or 100 isn't that powerful. Reserve capacity is what you want.

* Cold cranking amps are the important amps. If you read the label it may mention it.

* A gel battery (absorbed glass mat) maybe better than a wet cell. A gel battery is often marketed as maintenance free.

* Optima batteries are AGM (gel) batteries but they are expensive, Delco make one similar. The web site is worth reading for the info, but you would have to mail order Optima from Australia I think....if you can afford one. >>>>http://www.optimabatteries.com/<<<<

Gel or Optima batteries are the best but I have yet to find one in BKK and you will pay up to 3 times the cost coompared to a local brand.

Puma is the best, but expensive. Their life is about 4 years. Puma is Gel. Lower price and long life is Panasonic, old style acid battery with destillated water.

Yes, Boliden is good. Been using this brand of battery for my Toyota light truck for the last 26 years, each lasting about four years. The company is from Sweden and the battery now manufactured in Thailand.

Suggest you contact this company Amnuay Air, 053-241964. They are one of the best in automobile airconditioning and electrical system in Chiangmai and the price is reasonable.

I just checked the prices for the Optima gel batteries.

They were like 9,900 baht smaller and 14,900 baht biggest for the yellow or deep cycle ones.

You are better off just buying 3 normal batteries and hooking them up parallel.

This was in a shop in "the old siam" 3rd floor. I think ANUWAT sound. They specialize in hi-end auto sound.

Not too far off. I bought mine in the U.S. for like $150-200 USD while I was there. But this was that red top non-deep cycle one.

Hi :o

I have so far tried National (cheapo), 3K, Yuasa and currectly Panasonic. So far, the Panasonic is the best, National was the worst (had to fill water all the time, despite that it was out after about 8 months (6 months warranty).

The 3K came with 15 months warranty and guess what? In the middle of the 16th month the car wouldn't start anymore. It was maintenance free, no way to fill water.

Yuasa had 12 months warranty but lasted close to 3 years, however was rather weak after about 1 1/2 years, still it kept going. It, too, was maintenance free.

I'm in the second year with the Panasonic now, still going strong like on the first day.

In Germany, even cheap batteries come with a 2-year warranty and usually last 5 years, while expensive ones (Varta, Berga) come with 5 year warranty and last minimum 8 years, sometimes a car's life time. And there it gets cold in the winter! Why is it that here they always die so quickly?? In Germany they cost about the same as here, cheap ones as well as expensive ones.

Best regards.....

optima red top and your good to go, yes it costs more but also will last twice as long as cheaper brands... I used to run dual yellow tops in the baja, never let me down under insane conditions, but i doubt you need that much power on anything stock w/o running winches, lights, welders, or air compressors. But the red will keep you very happy for a long time

Realizing this thread is over 3-years old, however, understanding that car batteries haven't changed a lot since then. I'll add that I just purchased a 3k ns100, marked as 75 amp, for 2400 baht. I hope that it runs well for the next 5-years, at leastjap.gif
