Yes, and rather harsh on the OP. Serpentologist is indeed not a real word, but it's not a bad guess. Really it is ophiology and therefore ophiologist.

Herpetology is the study of all reptiles (originally) and amphibians (more recently), so asking for more specific expertise is reasonable.

Golden Tree snakes are "mildly venomous", hunting mice, lizards and other snakes (serpentivorous, not ophi(o)vorous). Their fangs are at the back of the mouth and they are not a risk to people. If you are lucky and have high trees nearby you might see them gliding between trees.

A ridiculous and unhelpful addition to this highly intellectual discussion.

You should be ashamed of yourself to display such ignorance.

Everyone knows that male snakes are called 'Sid'.

:D

Yes indeed. An ophis in the agrostis has slithered into view.

But I still prefer 'serpentology', never wanting to become bogged down in egregious entomological esoterica.

And yes there is another joke in there :D

Oh, back to the topic: thanks for the name! I'll go and look it up.

The snake was (very) approximately 726mm long.

Regardless, if that's a pic of you in your avatar- I'd advise you stay well out of its way.

EDIT: Pesky apostrophes
