hansnl
Can anyone tell me I can find or give me info on the bus from bkk to nong khai also the return leg nong khai to bkk. I am just looking for the times from Morchit. Thanks There are 2-3 departures per hour to Udon Thani and beyond, or more! Several companies, several classes, several types of buses. Would not be a problem. Most stop running after 01:00 at nigt, and start again about 06:00 in the morning. Chan Tour, Nakonchai Air, 407 are A/C and run every hour. Chan Tour is good, Nakomchai air is better, 407 seems to be ok. We use Chan or Nakonchai, sometimes 1st class Good show, but more expensive Alternative: the train, direct to Nong Khai from Hua Lampoong Takes longer, but you can really lay down on a bed 1st airco, 2nd airco or fan, see the website of Thai Railways Edited October 5, 2008 by hansnl

jdinasia
I strongly advise skipping a bus and doing a second class sleeper train (overnight) arriving into NongKhai in the early morning.

Are the trains running to the North. Last news I saw was they were not bcause of flood damage. Anybody seen an update. English version of SRT website doesn't have this kind of info. http://www.railway.co.th/english/index.asp Best to buy ticket in advance. hansnl
I strongly advise skipping a bus and doing a second class sleeper train (overnight) arriving into NongKhai in the early morning. I AGREE! Also because the new station in Nong Khai is very near to the friendship bridge to Laos. The time needed for the train to reach Nong Khai or the other way around is more, the choice between rather comfortable (train) and rather uncomfortable (bus) is not very difficult. And Nong Khai is in the Northeast! Edited October 5, 2008 by hansnl
ubonjoe
Sorry I should of said Nong Kai. North was slip of the fingers. But it is little general to say Northeast because the trains were still going to Korat and to Ubon.
astral
Unless you are going to Vientianne for a visa, there are much closer places to do a border run. Check out the price of Air Asia to Penang as an alternative location.
