BANGKOK, Dec 1 (TNA) - The government will burn more than eight billion baht worth of confiscated illegal drugs on Thursday.

The drugs, weighing more than 3.5 million tonnes, will be burned at the Bangpa-in Industrial Estate in Thailand's central province of Ayutthaya, Deputy

Public Health Minister Dr. Suchai Charoenrattanachai told TNA yesterday.

The confiscated drugs include more than 35 million methamphetamine pills, over 200 kilograms of heroin, and various quantities of other drugs, including opium and ecstasy.

“The drugs will be burned at very high temperatures – around 850 Celsius -- which will turn them almost immediately into carbon, causing no harm to the atmosphere or environment,” said Dr. Suchai.

They are scheduled to be burned on 2 December.

The Thai government destroys confiscated illegal drugs twice a year.

Earlier this year, in June, more than 2.5 tonnes of illegal drugs were burned.

There are still 20 tonnes of illegal drugs in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s high security room waiting to be destroyed next times.
