MKAsok
I'd like to buy some RAM - SO-DIMM - 533Mhz (DDR2). Anyone have any tips/suggestions as to what's the best shop for this in Fortunetown? Any kind of (even vague) guide to what I should currently expect to pay per GB would also be appreciated... Thanks mk

MKAsok
never been to fortune city, how does it compare to panthip? I think I mentioned this in another thread somewhere recently but basically: far more relaxed and civilised; virtually no tourists, therefore virtually no irritating tourist scammers of the kind you get in Pantip (think 'the porno guys') and, to a lesser degree, MBK; better prices generally on 'negotiable' items; more convienient (right next to MRT Phra Ram 9)... On the downside (if you can't speak any Thai) very little English spoken... mk
surface
While some of the smaller 1 or 2 person shops may not have anyone that speaks English, I've found most of the shops I've visited had at least 1 person who spoke enough to help me. I have to agree about it being a much better experience than Pantip.
GungaDin
Fortune IT is 1000% better than Panthip . The subway is a big plus too. No porn peddlers.
MKAsok
These guys are in Fortune, I got some Ram for my old laptop here. No worriesMemory Today Thanks for this recommendation. Went down there yesterday. These are top guys - very helpful and one guy in there speaks near-perfect English. Picked up 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 Mhz for 1,180 bht... Lifetime warranty by the manufacturer (Memory Research) and 2 weeks returnable warranty from the shop. All installed no problem anyway. Highly recommended... mk
junkofdavid2
Will buying new memory on my own void the Toshiba warranty on my laptop? Since I was worried about that, i had new mem put in by IT city where I bought the laptop, but the guy in IT city just put in the new memory the way I would have... there were not stickers or whatever that had to be removed/replaced, and there was no documentation to prove that it was done in IT city on the said laptop, aside from the receipt of the memory which didn't indicate that it was put in such laptop. MKAsok
Will buying new memory on my own void the Toshiba warranty on my laptop? Don't know about Toshiba, but here's what Sony say: IMPORTANT NOTES: Any damage that might occur due to upgrading the memory of your VAIO will NOT be covered by the warranty. You can only use the memory that is intended for this Sony VAIO. I'd imagine most major manufacturers have similar rules, but do check it out with Toshiba. The above seems to imply that your warranty is void only if the damage can be traced to the upgrading of the RAM. Presumably any malfunction that occurs independently of this is still covered...
