I'm not the only one mentioning the sad state of affairs - where many Thai families cannot afford to send their kids to school.

Here are some excerpts from a Thai writer, who states it better than I. The full article is in today's Bkk Post at: http://bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=131857

'Educated' By Ms Sanitsuda Ekachai

yes you made a whole thread on that op/ed piece hiding in the news .... and it has nothing to do with the airport.

I heartfully share the same view with 'brahmburgers'.

I saying out this as a passenger who has been using this new SUV airport for a dozen times for the past 2 years.

As a Thai who crrently is living in the US at the moment.

For every trip back home to TL, this is how it goes, usually my flights took me to to many airports ( layover) in Tokyo, sometimes Korea or Taiwan or HonKong.

Once in TL, I somtimes using SUV as a starting point for my traveling to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zian et. So I had seen quite of those new airports :o:D .

The point I try to make is, that Thai Gov't spent billions of bahts to build the new airport and got this kind of so-so presentation. :D:D My first impression of SUV is it fell behind all those airports that I mentioned above. SUV still has a long way to go to catch up theose new airports the sprung up in Asia and S.E. Asia.

'Brahmburgers' I've been to the village in Tha Ton ( Chieng-Rai) and Mae Ai (Chieng Mai). I agree that Thai gov't should do more to take care education and welfare of villagers before spending on this mammoth project like SUV. :D

I have to admit I liked D.M. over Swampy. D.M. was much more convenient and easier to get through. The problem was the need for expansion which D.M. was quickly running out of. I don't have any real qualms about Swampy other than it's not as convenient, except for those heading to Pattaya. From my own first experiences with Swampy, the staff seemed pretty helpful to me, going so far as to escort me through customs and out to the main part to meet the wife and kids. When I didn't see anyone waiting, they even used their mobile phones to call them at home. Turned out they were already at there, just on a different level.

"While it gives me pause to know the architect (Jahn) was famous for the roof-collapse of his first major international project (Winkler building, St. Louis, Missouri, USA ?)..."

What gives me pause is that it is so easy to find out the facts, and you neglected to do so. You are probably thinking of Jahn's first major project, the Kemper Arena, located in Kansas City, Missouri.
