Firefox On Osx Double Desktop Icon=unhappy

Featured Replies

Hi there

I'm on MacOSX....

I often press Apple/S for save to desktop.

Problem is, say I save a webpage I call

Dan Gilbert

I get both an icon for that and an icon entitled

Dan Gilbert_files

It's clogging up my desktop!

I understand the _files contain extra info about the saved page.

How can I get rid of _files icon without getting rid of the info in it? So when I save a webpage I get just the one icon?

Thanx v much

When you hit ⌘+s look to the lower part of the window that pops up, there will be a second 'Save As' radio button. The default is 'Web Page, complete', if you choose 'Web Page, HTML only' it will save in the format that you want, I believe.

You can do that in Safari, cmd-S and choose the "web archive" for format.

In Firefox, you get two options - HTML only, and complete, the latter creates the two icons, one for the page, the other one for all the files in the page. If you choose HTML only you get the page without the images which might look bad.

Why do you want to save web pages? Asking because whenever I save, say, confirmation vouchers or other stuff that I want for offline browsing, I just do "Print.." and then "Save as PDF". Works beautifully, only saves one file.

Thankyou both.

Seems odd one can't just save everything the same as normal. Otherwise Firefox works very well.

I had an idea for a keyboard shortcut.

I am constantly wanting to go into the littel Google box top right and have to mouse the cursor there.

Why not have

⌘G

to jump there?

cheers John

⌘k will do that.
