inu
Hi, My wife and I are currently in Thailand on a 90 non-b visa (no extension) which expires on 21/11/2008. We originally came to Thailand to explore opportunities on behalf of our company in Australia but had decided to return to Australia to apply for a retirement visa instead. We have now been approached by a bkk hospital to provide some consultancy work for a couple months. My question is can we obtain a 90-day extension to our non-b visa if we obtain a letter from the hospital? Or do we also need a contract? Payment for our services would be made to our company in Australia. We originally wanted a 180 day non-b visa but were unable to obtain one without a letter from sponsor in Thailand. We are now able to obtain a letter but are not sure what the next step is. Hoping someone can advise, Regards, Richard
Maestro
1. Work in Thailand For this you need to a work permit. Your employer should handle this for you. Once you have the work permit you can get an extension of stay but it is doubtful that you can get the work permit by November 21. 2. Retirement in Thailand With proof of pension or other income of minimum 65,000 Baht or 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank for at least three months or a combination of the two you can apply for a one-year extension of stay for retirement. -- Maestro

inu
Keep trying different banks, you will find one who will open an account for you, eventually... Have tried a few. Its interesting that one retirement visa requirement is have money in a Thai bank; even though you aren't allowed to open an account! Maybe demonstrating your ability to overcome obstacles such as this is part of the application process! R
ubonjoe
From your post it sounds like you may fall under this clause of the police order. If so you can get a 90 day extension. The hospital should be able to provide the confirmation and request. Cases 7.14 In the case of a skilled worker or expert in medicine, nursing or other professional for transfer of technology and knowledge to Thais: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time. Basis for Consideration (1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM); and (2) Confirmation and request has been made by the organization or agency concerned. Documents Required 1. Application form 2. Copy of the applicant's passport 3. Confirmation letter and request issued by the organization or agency concerned Link to police order: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/2notice/rtp606EN.pdf Edited October 26, 2008 by ubonjoe

I guess another issue is that we need an extension on a visa that states 'No Extension'. Regards, Richard
Mario2008
No-extension doesn't mean anything, don't worry. They just like to play with their stamps.
ubonjoe
Just ignore that part of stamp. This is nothing new and comes up all the time. You can still get an extension. It's an error done by the conulate and immigration will pay no attention to it.
