anotheruser
What exactly is wrong with your Mac? I am not in Bkk but have pretty thorough knowledge of iTunes and OS X. Alternatively you can try going to this website: http://forums.macrumors.com/ It is also my experience with iTunes that unless you invest the time yourself to learn to use it properly there will always be something wrong with it. So you can take it to a pro but if you continue to use it the same way you will most likely get the same frustrating results. deadman
thanks for the feedback guys. actually i just switched to mac, and gotta say i shoulda done it years ago. i'm a bit of an IT buffalo, so ideally i wanted someone to come over and guide me through some of difficulties i'm having. I saw an add on the villa mart board a few months ago, some farang offering just such a service, but that was before i switched. If all else fails i could check with one of the I-studio's, but thought i'd ask around first. cheers dm
nikster
I'd be happy to help out but I am in Chiang Mai. It's a good idea to ask a Mac guru because they'll know the 10 or so things that make life on the Mac so much easier. Little things that make a big difference. Of course this is the age of the internet, so you could just ask things in this very forum or in the notebookreviews Apple and OS X forums, there's lots of macheads there. deadman
hopefully someone may be able to help me, 1. the first problem i'm having concerns I-tunes. I bought a CD with about a dozen 10 mp3 files from pantip, drogged from the cd to desktop, then to my playlist. They go to my playlist OK, however they don't appear on the album artwork section. Hence i can see the tracklist, but there is no artwork. I have tried to get it via ;get album artwork', but this doesn't work because even the usual blank album does not appear. 2. another bug concerning album artwork, some files seem to randomly get artwork from my hard drive when i add them to a playlist, and it seems to get stuck there, i go to 'get info' > artwork> 'add' ect, but it will not replace the original one it chose at random with the one i want?? any help u can offer would be appreciated cheers dm
rijb
Sarge: Thank you for the list. My Macbook battery just died with only 100 charges on it. I live near Chiang Rai. Sarge
Sarge: Thank you for the list. My Macbook battery just died with only 100 charges on it. I live near Chiang Rai. Is Chiang Mai my best bet for a replacement?Deadman: hope you enjoy your Mac as much as I do yes CM would be the best bet. Battery performance is an issue especially with MBP, I have had same problem mainly because I kept the notebook plugged in the mains when I'm at home. Apple notebook computers use lithium-polymer (MacBooks and MacBook Pros) or lithium-ion (PowerBooks and iBooks) batteries as a portable power source. The following tips should help you get the most use out of your battery, and help with troubleshooting if you are experiencing problems. Do’s & Don’ts DO use your battery frequently and lightly, ideally completing 1-2 charge cycles per week (minimum one charge cycle per month). DO properly calibrate your battery when new and approximately every two months thereafter. DON’T fully discharge your battery frequently (the infrequent, periodic calibration is an exception). DON’T store your battery (or your computer) in a high temperature environment, such as the trunk of a car, especially a fully-charged battery. DON’T run your MacBook or MacBook Pro on AC power with the battery removed. Also you may want to update your battery's firmware: HERE Some more advice on calibrating your battery: HERE
rijb
The firmware didn't work. I think the battery is FUBAR. I didn't know about the need to calibrate the battery - maybe that was the cause. Thanks again Sarge!
Thaddeus
hopefully someone may be able to help me,1. the first problem i'm having concerns I-tunes. I bought a CD with about a dozen 10 mp3 files from pantip, And this is where your problems start..... if you have an original CD, or a bit to bit copy of an original CD, I-Tunes will access an on-line database and gather the information about it, artists, track names, genre etc..... Buy a Pantip Special and all you get is Track 01, Track 02, Track 03 etc.... and no artwork, well, none that can be matched with what you have bought. The only time that you will get the track listings as they should appear, is when a CD has been copied while the computer was on-line and then copied back out as a compilation, but the unique ID of the original CD is then lost. sleepyjohn
hi guysanyone know of a mac guru in BKK? cheers dm Deadman Learn the keyboard shortcuts for your own sake! A lot of shortcuts are done with the thumb on the left apple key and a digit or digits to the second, and sometimes third, keys. example apple+ z undo x delete but keep c copy v paste a all s save d bookmark I am writing to Apple to suggest they collaborate w firefox, safari for: apple+g=put cursor in google box and here's a great one apple+shift+3=full screenshot apple+shift+4=drag the screenshot then click Then you can try using the top row to see what the F keys do, you'll be surprised.....and while you're at it enable active corners in prefs.....indispensable! You can always learn by looking at the shortcuts on an apps toolbar dropdowns and here's a more comprehensive list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343 Then I suggest you Google for Mac tips...... cheers John

anotheruser
Here is my list of essential and free apps for a Mac. With these you shoulod be able to do almost anything you want with out paying. adium- multi-protocol instant messaging app http://www.adiumx.com/ disk inventory x- tool for seeing through a GUI what is actually on your hard drive http://www.derlien.com/ flip4mac- add on wmv codecs for quicktime player. http://www.flip4mac.com/ gimme some tune- App for finding lyrics and album art for your music http://www.eternalstorms.at/gimmesometune/...stdownload.html handbrake- app for converting DVD to avi files etc. http://handbrake.fr/ needle drop- App for playing itunes library in short loop which if you have gimme some tunes going will add art and lyrics to your entire library if you leave it on over night. Follow the instructions from the site for this one i am too lazy to type it out. neo office- free open source office suite to replace MS office http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/download.php#download quicksilver- read from the site what it does.... very handy and simple to use but hard to explain http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22549 senuti- tool for getting songs from your ipod to your mac http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/ isquint- tool for converting video and audiio file to ipod formats (visualhub is the paid version and worth the money if you are into this sort of thing) Just looked and it has been discontinued but you can find it if you know where to google. Azureus- full featured torrent client. http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php VLC- media player that plays files that are problematic in quicktime. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ perian- more codecs for quicktime http://perian.org/ All of these are free apps and I have used them extensively, there isn't much else I can think of that most people would need being a newbie to a Mac. My only other advice about using a Mac is if something isn't what you are used to always check the system preferences. If you are wondering how to right click etc..... it is in there. Good luck with your new Mac.

patrickq
One more suggestion for an excellent program Speed Download. I find it invaluable here in Thailand, as I'm using Edge via mobile connection, which is fairly slow and disconnects often. It enables the successful download of large files (eg 50Mb, 300Mb) which previously I could never manage. I was using the version 4 on free trial, about to buy the version 5 ($25), think you can trial it for a week or month. It is written for Mac

You can try rename the tracks using the real name and artist, then try get the artwork. If nothing else just google "artist name & album name" Then drag the picture onto the window that says "album artwork" when it is playing.
