What's the best paint store or chain in Bangkok for color selection. I don't mean the folder with 10 different colors. I'd like a store that either could mix to a sample I have (unlikley) or has a color selection they can mix with hundreds of choices so I can find something close to what I want.

Suggestions?

I live "Up Country" but I have some experience at buying paint in Thailand. If you look at the quality paint companies such as JOTUN, BEGER, ICI, PAMASTIC, NIPPON, even TOA or Captain and see which STOCK COLORS in the TYPE OF PAINT that is close to the COLOR you want in the QUALITY LINE of paint you are willing to consider, then the STOCK color will be less money than a "custom mix". Sometimes the paint store will have to order a "factory shipment", often they can squirt in the color according to the computer selection. But it was my experience that the FACTORY STOCK color would be less money. All of the above listed paint companies have many LEVELS of paint for all applications.

If you can find the specific PAINT from perhaps 2 paint companies you can compare prices. The larger 5 gallon buckets were in our experience less money than the 3 liter, one gallon, 9 liter, or 15 liter containers, but not all paint required that size in our home. I priced Home Mart, Home Pro, Home Works, and three local paint "depots" and in our area the local INDEPENDENT (but high volume) paint specialist had the lowest price. The wait for a factory shipment was NOT long and we did not pay a shipping fee. In Bangkok you should have MANY choices, but my advise is for you to CONSIDER a factory color, made at the paint factory.

What you will do about paint "changing" due to random thinning is another subject. All of the paint companies have web sites and staff in Bangkok who can answer your questions in English. Posted "list" price on a paint is a starting point for price negotiation.

I just bought some paint on the Lam Lukka Road ( 10 minutes East of the motorway on the left side) I went to Home Pro first but they are charging more. This shop accepts Credit cards and can mix etc. My house is on the Tanya Thanee Golf Course and the walls kept on cracking. After a year I noticed that the contractor keeps on pouring the same old stuff on it ( TOA 4 seasons). 6 months later the cracks appear again. I believe I cannot change the cracking process but I can change the paint. So now I bought TOA 7 in 1 + a primer.. Cost are about 25k ( 4seasons is about 17K).

We will see how that goes.

If any body has some advice on how to prevent cracks or how to hide them better please feel free to send me a note.

Thanks,

a) plaster the cracks. Remove the loose stuff first using a trowel.

:o Home Pro to custom mix paint.

ICI is a well known brand. You get what you pay for.
