Saved a Thai from being fined. Good or bad?
A dozen or so police scattered around a busy intersection stopping pick ups carrying workers and bikers with no helmets. After passing, stopped at a shop nearby. Saw a bike riding towards the intersection with no helmet. Hand gestured him about the police operation. He stopped, did a U-turn, several wais in my direction, rode away. Reminded me of in oz motorists high-beaming oncoming traffic of mobile speed cameras. Must admit the comradery, solidarity and helping others is satisfying. Would you, or have you done this? -

That is a pretty good summary. Currently I'm satisfying the money in bank method and simultaneously have been doing monthly transfers and for my next extension asking immigration for switch to income method. The other thing to consider is each particular immigration office interpretation of "income" Some offices happy to just see consistent international monthly transfers. Some want to view some sort of proof of "pension" No wonder some folk use agents -

Thai Baht is ruining my retirement
The only way so smooth out currency fluctuations is to hold buffer cash in different currencies. Holding above 1 million baht left over from months ago in a Thai bank account is protecting me - for now at least - from the strengthening of the baht. Not to mention that if the baht strength reduces the influx of tourists, I may get less worse hotel deals. -

Pattaya Cracks Down on Illegal Immigrants to Protect World-Class Tourist Image
Pattaya authorities detained several illegal immigrant beggars on Thursday to protect the city’s world-class tourism image. At 6:00 PM on September 26th, Chonburi Immigration, Pattaya City officials, and the Chonburi Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, jointly launched a crackdown on illegal immigrants begging in Pattaya. The authorities said the beggars were causing damage to the image of the city, which is a world-class tourist destination. Officials inspected areas around Wat Chaimongkol on Pattaya Second Road and along Pattaya Beach, both of which are popular with tourists. They said immigrants had been using these locations to beg for money from tourists, causing annoyance. Some even brought small children with them, which authorities suspected might not belong to them and could be victims of a human trafficking network. Others were elderly, and some appeared disabled to evoke sympathy from passersby. They would sit on the sidewalks, reaching out for money as tourists walked past them.
