My DSL modem would lock up periodically and it didn't take long to recognize what the problem was. Anytime I would upload something (even something as small as sending an instant message), the modem lights would all light up and stay on and my internet connection was locked up.

2 things:

a) Has this happened to anyone?

ii) Has anyone used their own DSL modem?

Maybe the settings in the Modem Program (Firmware).

You should post as much details as possible, starting by the Brand, Type, Model of the modem, used Firmware pp.

Cheers.

Well, it gets a little more stranger. Here are my details, have a take...

- TT&T Premier 2MB line

- SmartAX MT880 (circa 2005). OE firmware as I can't find anything newer that the modem will actually recognize as firmware

Software Release V100R002B023 TTT

Firmware Release E.37.5.40

Release Date (2006-12-18)

I've narrowed it down to one program which is causing the modem to freeze and require a power down/up. Adium. Adium is the IM program I use on my MacBook. I can FTP up, torrent with no problem, but the second I get open Adium, it locks up. I can use iChat with no problem. Same protocols for iChat as there is for Adium, so I don't know where to start on fixing that problem.

The modem is absolutely archaic and full of bullshit settings. I got this modem from TT&T because they were out of the newer modem/wireless routers. I figured, sure, I'll take a modem only and I can use my Linksys N wireless router and I won't have to bridge or relay the wifi. I'm thinking about asking TT&T if I can get a new modem. Or, I thought about buying my own. Which brings me back to my question if anyone else has used their own DSL modem.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
