Don't know if anyone knows the rules on this one.

Went to labour office in Nakhon Ratchasima today to extend work permt. I was three days late and had a good excuse for this in the way of a hospital certificate.

Labour office insists that I have to cancel my work permit and reapply for a new one as I was three days late.

should be easy enough to do, but seems a bit harsh.

Also worth noting I have recently moved provinces. My guess is they just want to find out as much as possible about me to give them something to do.

Appears to be that is the case and pretty strict about timing. I came in one day late due to my visa extension being given late in the afternoon. Figured one day shouldn't be a problem. Wrong, I got politely scolded about it and was told she will let it pass this time but not again.

BTW, for future reference, you could have had a proxy do it for you and you wouldn't have to be there.

Spoke to my Lawyer who suggested talking to the chief in the office. But as I said before, I think because I have moved province - surin to Khorat - they want to know as much about me as possible. Let's face it, they need something to do. This afternoon there was a girl with her head flat on the desk sleeping.

Will probably have to bite the bullet on this one. My guess is that they have the authority to cancel the WP without any valid reason anyway.

Unfortunately, they are within their rights to cancel if you are late applying.

For your future information, you can actually make an application 'Pending Visa' and then supply your new visa/stamp copies within 7 working days.

Your best bet now is to go back in, say how sorry you are and ask if there is any way you can 'fix' this particular problem.
