Good Lawyer

I am about to try and negotiate the purchase of a house in Chiang Mai.

I think I know the possible ways I can do this and will probably try a company

arrangement rather than lease or buying in my wife's name.

However I will need the help of a trusty, English speaking Lawyer

Any suggestions as to a good company would br greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi, I am in a similar situation as you and would very much appreciate recommendations/information on 'good' lawyer or law firm that is used to deal with property ownership solutions for non-Thais (not only setting up of limited companies but also establishing long term leases secured contracts)

I have searched this board and ICO seems to pop up several times being recommended. I have looked at their website and it seems they project more an image of dealing with corporations rather than individuals but it might only be the design of their site.

Any first hand experience with ICO or other lawyers/law firms in Chiang Mai ?

Thanks for any input

Respectfully disagree with your perception of largely corporate usage..... I have used their services for years and can and do recommend them highly..... If you haven't already found it , search back in the "Chiang Mai Forum" to about the middle of August this year and you will see the subject previously discussed with several different firms suggested....

If you should elect to call ICO, suggest you ask for Kn. Tho or his wife Kn Aoy.

Have a look at the following threads in the Chiang Mai section:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...10860&hl=lawyer

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...15081&hl=lawyer

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...=9660&hl=lawyer

Note to all ThaiVisa readers, whether regular or not; If you scroll to the bottom of any of the individual forum index pages, tou will see a box labeled "Enter Keywords". Next to that is a box labelled "Search Forum". It is always helpful to run a search before you post a question.

get your own country law firm to deal with the local law firm

added insurance and demand that all documents be signed in english first

and then have it translated into thai as mere copies only...

don't sign in any language that you can't read or understand...

I would like to suggest you to try to contract ICO. From my experience they are not do

marketing because they were born by word of mouth. You can try to contract by phone

059-126045-6. Hope you will good luck.

I personally would not use ICO if my life depended on it. I have used them before and they where a nightmare.

Just found out that the goverment may take my land from me that ICO arranged the purchase of. Then they tried to double my initial quote for other work that they did even though I have a reciept for the work in question with a breakdown of charges. They also charged my friend 20000 baht more than me for exactly the same work.

They are a joke and the only time you see the lawyer is initially or when you pay, after that all the work is done by helpers with no legal qualifications. Also the lawyer there his qulifications are very poor. Just passed all his exams.

You have been warned
