Removing Iud

Featured Replies

Hey girls,

Wondering if any of you have any experience with removing an IUD [Mirena] in a clinic or hospital in Thailand?

I want mine removed since it gives me lots of pain and trouble lately although my doctor in europe said it was still fine.

I want to go back to the pill, does anyone knows what that would cost and do you need to get a new recept every 6 months or is it available in pharmacies?

I ve been on the move for weeks now havent had tim to investegate myself, any help would be appreciated!

Thnx ladies.

I imagine any gyno can remove an IUD? Never gone for it myself as I have been fortunate to have no issues with the pill. As for the pill, over the counter here, quite reasonably priced (IMO as an American anyway) from 60 baht a month to 300. No prescription or doctors visit necessary.

Any gyn can remove an IUD, no problem. I had one removed here years back. And as other postere mentioned, pills are over the counter, cheap and available everywhere.

i had my iud removed and it wasnt simple;

if u are having pain and/or spotting then they should probably be doing an ultrasound first to see its placement; then, usually, they can just pull it out and u may or may not get antibiotics depending on the doctor and the protocol of the hospital;

if it is embedded (what happened to me after 10 yrs of IUD, i only noticed it bothering me during sex and then i was stupid enough to put it off (the check up) for a few months so ...), then usually it is a minor surgery to remove i.e. general anasthesia (maybe epidural in some hospitals?)... mine was a same day operation: came in a/m., late afternoon sometime put under, woke up, and after being checked etc, released to go home with antibiotics and three days vacation from exerting myself at work... this was in israel, not sure what protocol is in thailand, but i think the scenario would be similar . oh, forget, told to come back for a U/S check up about a month later, but never did, so far, no problems... oh, my period went a bit nuts after that cause apparently the embedding caused a hormonal reaction similar to pregnancy, swelling breasts, enlarged uterus, whatever.. also my age may have something to do with that...

either way, if u plan for the worst case scenario and in the end they just yank it out, then u can laugh it off afterwards...

best of luck,

bina

Thanks for your reaction.

I kinda figured any gyn can remove it...actually looked for some recommendations but I have an appointment in Bangkok Hospital now.

I have indeed a lot of pain lately although they did they ultrasound in Europe and couldn't find anything wrong with it...but after 4 years it has to come out sooner or later!

So off I go then!
