I am moving to Thailand on a retirees visa next year and wonder what the rules are re bringing personal effects and a car into Thailand. Personal effects are basically about 200 CD's, DVD player and a 2004 Hyundai Getz car. I know I'd have to factor in shipping costs for the car, but as it's only done about 15,000 klms it would be worth the transport costs as long as I didn't have to pay duty on top of all that.

Hi, the link is to the official that customs website.

There you will be able to get some info about importing household goods.

A car is not considered to be a part of that, and since taxes and duties are very high on cars it maybe wiser to sell it instead of paying those amounts.

Use the search function ( top righthand somewhere on the page) and look for importing a car /household goods etc.

Several member have written something about their experience.
