November 12, 200817 yr So...if western parents have a child in Thailand, then the child is Thai, right? Even if blond and blue-eyed (and even if cannot speak Thai when they get older). Or does it come down to where you register your child? If a western child is born here (Thailand) are they allowed to be registered here? Im very confused, and its only 7:15am...!)[/i] Is this a rhetorical question eek? Moss
November 12, 200817 yr no Its a 'just woke up and havent yet had coffee' question. But, none-the-less, genuine. I did start to ramble a bit though.. my thought process and typing at the time was synchronised. (basically the text form of speaking without thinking)
November 12, 200817 yr eek, it's a valid question. I have met so many Amerians whose grandfather was Irish so they still claim to be Irish. Maybe it's because USA is a fairly 'new' country and claiming heritage gives them, well, heritage. When I tell Americans I can trace my geneology back to the 12th century, they swoon!

November 12, 200817 yr So...if western parents have a child in Thailand, then the child is Thai, right? I don't think the child would be able to claim Thai citizenship. In the UK, i think one parent has to hold ILR or Citizenship (not sure which)

I was once in Boston (the one on the east coast of America) and happened to drop into the conversation with some locals that I had ancestors on the Mayflower (me and Bops, are probably distant cousins, where is he btw) my mother did the research. I'll see your swoon, and raise you a large amount of free beer and getting laid. Just had a thought (can't think why) ......... where's the klown?

November 12, 200817 yr Before the current version of my surname, which started being used in the 12 century in Wexford, (by members of the aristocracy, ahem!) it was the French 'Le Hir' which means 'The Inheritors'. I don't really want to know more, any further back and I might start working back to Adam and Eve!
