Fair point. Could it be, they set this amount to raise the financial standard of foreigners living there? This is one reason I put forward for the eventual raising of the 800k / 65k. It could be a small rise, to keep up with living costs, or a significant rise, to clean Thailand up. Yes, citizen does give one the right to reside there. The 1 year Thailand retirement visa / extension is nothing more than a 1 year tourist visa. It gives no right to reside in Thailand, and can be revoked at any time, or the goal post moved to qualify for it.
